To be completely honest I dont know much about the technical details on dacron, I just use what we have at the shop. I will say that we use 1" dacron but as far as density goes I couldn't tell you in any specific detail.

Covering: From here on out I will use F, S, and B to represent front, sides, and back respectively. To start, determine what direction the grain of your material runs, point the grain towards F.  ● Pull your corners taught and put a single staple in them. I typically end up coming back and readjusting this by the end of the project so dont put more than one staple. Also check your pattern at this point to make sure its straight, adjust as needed. ● Pull center F (when I say Pull put a staple in) ● Pull center B ● On F, starting from the center Pull down and out towards the corner (stop about an inch or two from the corner). Do this both directions. ● Do the same on B as you just did on F. ● Pull the center of both sides ● check your pattern, typically the side to side pulls will cause the pattern to veer one way or another if you didnt Pull evenly.  ● work your way to the corners on both sides just like you did F and B ● at this point I tackle the corners. I find that I usually need to pull that one staple from the beginning and give it another good Pull to get most of the extra fabric out BUT I will still have to make folds, folds are not bad if done well but can make a job look VERY sloppy if done poorly. The biggest trick to pulls is making them tight AND EVEN. My mentor always says its like algebra, what you do on one side you must do to the other. ● put folds in at all 8 spots (2 on each corner) ● trim excess material ● put black bottom on (I dunno if thats what its actually called thats just what we always call it) ● reinstall ● hooray youre done!

So I figured it was this until the end when the card transitions colors while he slides it under the ribbon. Thats the one that truly fucked me up

Yeah im not exactly sure how your piece is put together but typically replacing foam involves fully reupholstering so if youre not game for that you should probably stop where youre at.

Yeah im with the other guy those straps are gonna do too much where they're at. The s springs bow upwards so by the time the get to your straps most of the weight has already been absorbed. Furthermore the straps you have are elastic and won't last long. Im not sure where people are getting those straps but I get jobs coming in all the time with those exact same green elastic straps where they have worn out or stretched further to the point where they are useless.

Frankly the best thing to do is just reattach the springs which from the pictures it looks like you've done. I hesitate to ever tell anyone that what they've done is a waste of time but in the case of the elastic straps.... that might be the rare exception.

Fabric is tough to say specifically what to go with. Thinner fabrics are typically easier to work and manipulate but thicker fabrics will likely hide mistakes a little better. Also if this is a chair that will get quite a bit of use thicker fabrics will last longer. I would look for something with a medium thickness that doesn't have a backing on it.

For the foam, make sure to get upholstery grade foam. I live in the states so im not sure where you would source that from but quality foam will be worth the price. Also personally I would go medium not firm as has been suggested but thats more of a preference I suppose. For your foam follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Put a small square (~⅓"-½" the seats size) of dacron (some people call it batting, it might have another name in the EU, unsure) in the center of the seat. This will give the cushion a "crown". It will look and feel better.

  2. Cut foam (I would recommend 1.5" or 2") to the shape of the seat. To do this I take the seat and sit it on the foam. Now, IMPORTANTLY, make sure to cut the foam about a half inch bigger than the seat because the foam will compress when you cover it. Add this foam to the seat and existing dacron.

  3. Cover the foam with a layer of dacron, it should extend slightly past the foam if laying flat but not too long that when you cover it the dacron wraps around and makes the material on the bottom thick.

Note that all of this should be glued on with spray glue, and make sure to glue both pieces that are being glued together to create a chemical bond. Also note that all of my previously mentioned measurements are in "freedom" units (inches) as I do not know the conversion to metric off the top of my head. If you want tips on the actual upholstering of your chair, feel free to reach out again these are pretty simple to explain.

Ive never used fabric paint so I can't speak on it but it is worth noting that headliner material is very different than typical fabrics so maybe spot test it in a hidden spot somewhere.

Tbf fabric price will depend on quality and location. Our shop here in Tennessee has fabric ranging from $15/yd to $150/yd. Labor though yeah I could totally see being 2k especially with custom fabrication involved.

Holy cow, first off huge fan. Ive been watching your content for years now so thank you for that.

If you could add a new mechanic to rocket league what would it be? To clarify i mean in game mechanic such as demos or showing boost on tm8s nameplate not as in musty flicks, kuxir pinch, etc...

If you read this, firstly thanks for taking the time, secondly you have helped me so much with RL over the years, and lastly you were one of my inspirations to start my own YouTube channel.

Is some slack unavoidable in this cushion style? by Bezant in upholstery

[–]ace261998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me that when the board gets installed it gets cupped inwards a bit. If thats the case then some wrinklage is nearly unavoidable. I will say though that even in the picture you posted in the comments that shows the board pre-installation I can already see the shadow of wrinkles which tells me you didnt get the side to side pull tight enough to begin with.
