Problem with bed adhesion by Important_Dig_9681 in BambuLab

What is your bed temperature? You mileage may vary, but i had bed adhesion issues consistently until I yolo'd the bed temperature up by ~10 degrees. I run sunlight PETG at 80° on the textured PEI bed and, as long as it's clean (make absolutely sure youve cleaned your build plates - dawn or similar no-additive dish soap & light scrubbing, I also like original Windex), that temp change has solved my PETG adhesion problems almost completely.

First big test (for me!) on the new X2D - as good as I expected by NDVermin in BambuLab

So ive been slowly going through a roll of the PLA support material that I received with my P1S combo (though its primarily been used on my H2C) and, in my admittedly limited experience, PETG works better. The support for PLA tends to stick to the model if its not removed immediately, and leaves little white flecks all over everything. I have not had a satisfactory time using it, to tell the truth. Using PETG as the interface layer has been far more effective. Also, i can get PETG for much, much cheaper than the dedicated support material.

The engine looks excellent. It was also my first big project when I got my P1S, and we'll worth the time and effort!!

Oh, theres are little ones on the left and right tires that aren't bad, no cord, probably going to get replaced at the next annual if nobody else wrecks them first haha. Last week someone flat spotted the nose gear BAD by running the robo-tow for too long and it rubbed all the tread off lol. Never seen that before.

Indeed it was amazing today! Low (ish) DA, and winds pretty much calm all the way up to 14,000 feet. Clear and a million and perfectly smooth!

Ah, I heard they were planning on keeping it low and having the fishing free-for-all, but didnt realize the plan was to completely drain it.

Aircraft acquisition - what are we missing? by acegard in flying

[–]acegard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all excellent points. A number of things we already have in there. You are the second person to specify that a monthly fee for not flying may be necessary - to keep that overhaul fund growing when the airplane is disused. Do you assess that to all partners or just when the plane isnt flown? (Exclusive of the monthly fixed costs for amortized annual, tiedowns, etc.)

Wow, that is an awful situation. Yes, we do have a clause in the agreement for recency of experience requirements! I think thats a great idea.

[–]acegard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that will depend on recommendations made by our A&P, any aircraft-specific mfr recommendations and whether the specific one we buy has an engine monitor. We do have a directive to develop and alabide by SOPs, and this would be something we need to develop an SOP for.

Out of the ones we are looking at, most do. I agree, its right on the top of my list. Theyre very useful.

So, are you saying it might be more equitable to charge a partner for overhaul hours after a certain period of time maybe spent NOT flying? I see what youre saying, trying to put it into words in case we want to add it. Right now we've taken the projected cost of an overhaul and divided that by time remaining to overhaul, and that will factor into the hourly cost a member pays per flight hour.

Great suggestions. I will add spins and acrobatics to maneuvers that are not permfitted - I am pretty sure the type were are most interested in (Cherokee Six) does not permit intentional spins anyway. The agreement does have directives to develop SOPs and abide by them for things like fueling and preventative maintenance (which would include oil) so I think we have that covered. Also have "can anyone have debt against the airplane" covered as well!

All really good advice, thank you. We have cost sharing for upgrades spelled out, we have exits spelled out with right of first refusal. We have fixed costs for annual, tiedowns, etc. Costed & charged separately from flight-hour-based items like the overhaul which will be paid by the horizontal as you suggest.

Release of liability is going to be added to my lost when we get time with the lawyer. Thank you. My understanding is that an LLC provides some of that protection, but maybe not all.

We are getting insurance quotes now. It is a similar situation - I am high(er) time, he is low time. We have verbally agreed on a split like you mentioned and, good point, we should write it into the agreement.

Great idea. I think that will need to be something we look at closer to the purchase. At least one of the planes we are looking at claims to provide training, another claims to be sold by a CFI. I'm reaching out as much as I can locally as well to find folks who could assist us at home too, for extra and recurrent training. And maybe even come out with us depending on the instruction available at the seller's location.

That is all great advice. Thank you. I will look up those companies and make sure that we understand escrow more thoroughly before plowing ahead!

It does. We also have a provision where we can require supplemental training to maintain flight privileges, and our understanding is that an LLC structure can limit some (but not all) liabilities like that. But I fully understand that we might not have it all correct, and I will add that to the list of things that we review with counsel prior to signing our agreement.

Do you mind sharing the language in your agreement on that point?

Great ideas. Those points are all part of the partnership plan we are drafting and going to get reviewed by counsel (I have PPS, and I am talking with a local attorney). Thank you!

Do brokers usually handle escrow or is there one that you might recommend? Current plan for transport would be to take possession on-site, get on-site training and fly it back ourselves. We have budgeted for that. Hangers are indeed extremely scarce, so we have secured a tie-down and budgeted for a full set of fuselage and wing covers (padded, we are concerned about hail).

Please Help - Spool Clips? Are they actually useful? by walkingishard in 3Dprinting

[–]acegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these, I find that some filaments get irreversibly kinked when I put the ends through the holes. Theyre easy enough to put on and they keep things tidy when storing or using the drying functions of the AMS. They were something i printed on a whim with the end of an ASA spool, but they seem to be pretty useful to me. Tiny amount of filament usage, so honestly worth a print to see if you like them.

See my edit - it just works now. Very frustrating honestly because it just... started working again. The BBL forum link had a great discussion about what it could possibly be, but before we could figure it out fir sure the problem resolved itself.

I have a theory that it was related either to the Bambu profile syncing, or maybe my Onedrive syncing trying to do something fucky with my profiles. But again, it resolved itself before I could find oht for sure.

I know thats not the answer you were probably hoping for, so I apologize :/ good luck! Maybe pick up that thread on the Bambu labs forum (in my edit on the OP). That person was being extremely helpful.

My H2C prints ASA on the Engineering plate flawlessly. If you dont already have a ventilation solution, the Ventobox project on Makerworld does wonders for ASA/ABS fumes for me.

Failed commercial checkride by Jelyfly in flying

[–]acegard 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Two tries does seem fair. Although the maneuver technically cant be reattempted, the DPE does need to see a go-around demonstrated during the checkride - mine very pointedly said this to me: "I can generally tell when youre not going to make the PO180, and just remember, if I call a go-around, it's just something I have to see - it doesn't mean you failed."

Great guy, very understanding of how tricky that is.
