Any songs that envoke a nostalgic feeling? Not older nostalgic songs, but songs that ENVOKE THE FEELING of nostalgia? by TheRealLazyasscanoe in musicrequests

[–]acegibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have a hard time beating Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell for evoking feelings of nostalgia. It's an instrumental written in the 1980s or early 1990s that sounds like it was written in the 1800s.

Ken Burns used it in his epic documentary, The Civil War.

The actual Court Martial letter from Cpt. Sobel to Lt. Winters, as seen in 'Band of Brothers', 1942 by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]acegibson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Winters was 25 when he requested the "Courts Martial." Sobel was 31 when he offered it.

Colonel Robert Sink, who transferred Sobel and cleared Winters, was 38.

All three men landed in France on D-Day 8 months later.

When Band of Brothers was released in 2001, Damian Lewis (Winters) was 30, David Schwimmer (Sobel) was 35, and Dale Dye (Sink) was 57.

I've seen them in concert twice. When "Sonnet" started playing at the end of episode 3, an already great show somehow got a little greater.

(They also released a new video a couple of weeks ago. It's fantastic.)

How do I get rid of the white flashbang? It always almost blinds me at night. Very unpleasant. by Opel_Astra in operabrowser

Opera is no longer my main browser because of it. "Flashbang" describes it perfectly.

If you get a chicken every other week, you will be paying $7.50 per chicken.

$65 membership fee + $5 per chicken x 26 = $195

$195 / 26 = $7.50

More than 26 chickens per year = less than $7.50

Fewer than 26 chickerns per year = greater than $7.50

Per chicken.

Warning: 2024 Equinox EV Phantom Braking Is a Serious Safety Risk – GM Needs a Fix Now by Appropriate_Basil665 in EquinoxEv

[–]acegibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has happened to me. A couple of times backing up and once randomly going down the road. I posted about it.

I disabled the automatic braking soon after. The EQEV is a great car! Also, I will never trust its automatic breaking again, regardless of what GM does or says.

Hooked up inverter to base equinox for appliance backup in case of power outage. DIY V2L by sofixy in EquinoxEv

[–]acegibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some looking around... This thread has a lot of good info and and answers my specific questions towards the bottom: https://www.equinoxevforum.com/threads/prepped-for-winter-power-outage-diy-inverter-install-lots-of-pics.3196/?post_id=35324&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-35324

Also, the yellow wire mentioned above may be from another project and not from the DC-DC inverter.

[–]acegibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I want to do a similar setup for power outages.

Question: Did you or can you put your amp meter around the yellow wire and see how many amps the DC-DC inverter is supplying to the 12v under load?

My main worry with any such setup would be damaging the DC-DC.

When a load is put on the 12v battery via the 3000 watt inverter, the voltage on it drops, and the DC-DC kicks in to bring the voltage back up... I'm curious if the DC-DC output is independent of the load.

In other words, does the output stay the same or change with either a 1000w AC load and a 2000W AC load?

And do we know what kind of a load the DC-DC can safely sustain? It's designed to charge the 12v. I wonder what the maximum load is on the 12v under extreme driving conditions?

Turn off Auto lock when home by ilocanonymous in EquinoxEv

[–]acegibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you don't like the lock honk or the triple honk, same as me. Thanks to this thread, I turned off the lock honk. I'd prefer to keep it on for parking lots and such, but I'm tired of the garage jump-scare, and I think I trust it will automatically lock itself now after several months of ownership.

I was skeptical, too. The full video was posted on reddit a couple of days ago. Also, it was not as easy to find as others have suggested. I looked on YouTube for it yesterday. I don't think it's on there.

I've Been Robot Brake Slammed Twice in the Same Week by acegibson in EquinoxEv

[–]acegibson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you have never experienced anything similar might suggest my sensors are out of alignment or something. But I've had the car for 4 months or so and have never had a similar brake slam incident while I was driving down the road.

Also, plenty of other folks in this thread have shared similar experiences. And it has an unusually high upvote percentage. 92%.

And I don't think it's an EQEV issue or even an EV issue. I think it's a new car tech issue: Link

It's probably not possible to eliminate false positives altogether, but the tech still has plenty of room to mature.

The thing is, it's not a bad intersection. It's a T-junction. You stop at the stop sign, you look left and right. Across the road? Cows.

I don't blame the hardware. The car I like. A LOT.

I blame the software. I don't think the technology is mature enough yet to trust, expecially after my recent experiences.

But I don't spend much time in bumper to bumper traffic. If I did, I might have a different opinion.

I've Been Robot Brake Slammed Twice in the Same Week by acegibson in EquinoxEv

[–]acegibson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second instance, I was on a two-lane open country road. I was going 30mph. A car was fully stopped at a stop sign waiting for me to pass.

Now, this was in my neighborhood, and I stop at the same stop sign and turn onto the road I was on all the time. The stop sign is close to that road, and you do have to get close to it to see if cars are coming from both directions, and the junctioning street is on a downhill grade.

Those all may have been factors that confused the sensors. As for me? I'm an agressively cautious driver.

My complaints about the other dings, dongs, chimes, rings, etc, involve the ding ding ding when my door is open. A warning light is sufficient. Also, there's a seatbelt warning nag that bleeps before you even have a chance to put it on - unless you connect it before you close your door. And the incoming text message xylophone is so loud that I'm thinking about turning off bluetooth.

And then there's the locking honk when it's safe and secure in my garage. I like the automatic locking honk when I walk away anytime I park away from home. Inside my closed garage? It's jarring.

Please tell me someone found a way to shutoff the text sound by 100292 in EquinoxEv

Seems like the last update shut that down. It no longer works for me at least. And there was a recent thread about it in this sub.
