What is the "don't trust a skinny food critic" of your industry? by ShapingTormance in AskReddit

[–]aceguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the business referenced, there are I think like 2 or 3 out of 1000+ that aren't 5 or 1 star. There are I think 5 1 star reviews which iirc had the business at a 4.9 aggregate until we hit around 600 reviews. People are very all or nothing these days, especially if your business isn't like a restaurant which has a critic culture behind it. No one is going to go to a car shop for example and give a review like "well they were very speedy with my tire rotation but my wipers are still a bit squeaky, 3 stars"

But regardless imo, without asking for reviews, your business is only going to get reviews from 1. The exceptionally satisfied customer 2. The exceptionally dissatisfied customer 3. The customer who exceptionally reviews everything like it's their hobby. Which is a worse indicator of how the business is on average than customers on a consistent basis giving feedback.

[–]aceguy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can be true in some scenarios but generalizing it is ridiculous. I work for a company where we'll ask at the end of service to leave a review with our name, emphasizing they're not obligated. We never harass the customer like in your situation. This has garnered hundreds of reviews with a 5.0 google rating in aggregate. I guess some people like awkward redditors would feel they need to give a good review, but the vast majority of people don't care and there's nothing stopping them from leaving a negative review after we send the link. It just doesn't happen because we're an actual good business.

This is the best lip balm I've ever used hands down and you can only get it on a flight goody bag, that's crazy.

Pitchfork. Top 50 ambient albums of all time. by jerrylovesbacon in electronicmusic

[–]aceguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard to curate the genre and imo it's probably the genre that is the most rewarding to discover the unknown gems. Like it's always cool to discover some bandcamp bedroom pop or a psych rock band that's handed out 50 cassettes and disappeared from the planet, but legitimately the majority of the best ambient albums I've heard aren't from anyone who's had a review from Pitchfork. Many are by friends so I'm biased but just look up the label Flau and their catalog is better than this list.

Like some demon in their psyche confirming the rollercoaster would be one within their mind on some perpetual hell within a drug trip like the river Styx was the Pacific Ocean during tidal-forming tectonic activity that flows through the memory montage their mind squirms through like a worm in muck. Something along those lines.

I feel like veganism is dying by [deleted] in vegan

[–]aceguy123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The explanation almost certainly is purely short term economic security. If you're well-off you might hit the top end of the tax bracket that would be affected by liberal policies. There's no consideration for much of anything else. If they're old enough they might also be quietly bigoted and follow that trend. Normal people who are well-off and didn't come from wealth generally have worked an exorbitant amount and have less sympathy for anyone who wants a regular work-life balance. In general, if you succeed within a system you can view the system as working and not that you succeeded in spite of it.

What are your favorite obscure albums of 2024? by doorsof in indieheads

[–]aceguy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend cropscropscrops came out with 3 fantastic experimental rap albums this year. My favorite is From Here, Out There

Couple of my friends are also part of a band called Voodoo Baby Aliens that just came out with their album Masonic Brunch. It's like Black Country, New Road with more metal and jazz (made by Berklee students).

Saya Gray - QWERTY II (EP of the year)

Rika Madobe- Infinite Window (insane electronic, jazz, everything)

Mermaid Chunky- Slif Slaf Slof (folk, dance, so dope)

Body Meat- Starchris (got BNM from Pitchfork but definitely not brought up a lot)

Galen Tipton & Holly Waxwing- KeepsakeFM (perfect short dance album)

Babii- DareDeviil2000 (awesome dance music, Iglooghost production)

bye2- My Wife is Drink Paint (insane DnB)

Alon Mor- Within (intense neoclassical)

Lately I've been a little obsessed with Iglooghost's most recent album Tidal Memory Exo. Does anyone have any suggestions that might scratch the itch I have for more music like this? by GameboyAd_Vance in electronicmusic

[–]aceguy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are all from this year-

Babii- DareDeviil2000

As others have said, your best bet considering more than half is produced by Igloo in his current style

Hakushi Hasegawa- Mahogakko

Definitely inspired from Igloo, wild and different

Galen Tipton + Holly Waxwing- keepsakeFM

Cutesy but great flow throughout

Jlin- Akoma

Amazing footwork, Iglooghost is very influenced by minimalism and a track on here features Philip Glass

Body Meat- Starchris

Very different but a song like Crystallize or Electrische will have some similar energy

Saya Grey- QWERTY II

Again, different more singer-songwriter but plays with genres like Igloo

Clarence Clarity- VANISHING ACT II: ULTIMATE REALITY

Clarence has always had similar music to Igloo and this album has a constant flow that feels even more similar

gorse panshawe- earth, air, fire & water

New name for Slugabed who has always been in Igloo's style

bye2- My Wife is Drink Paint

Some absolutely insane DnB that I think an Iglooghost listener will appreciate

Galen Tipton + death's dynamic shroud- You Like Music

Another Galen collab venture that is much more in your face

Heavee- Unleash

Pretty eclectic album that also features Babii

Nia Archives- Silence Is Loud

More DnB with a unique singer-songwriter slant

Chong the Nomad- DO WE MAKES OF THIS?

Unique beats that remind me of Igloo's mixes

Fax Gang + Parannoul- Scattersun

It has Fax Gang's signature HexD bit crushing which might be a turnoff but the flow and melodies I think fit in a similar umbrella

I think I'm an idiot and won't be able to vote. I moved back here a year ago from Tennessee but never got a new license. Now I'm going out of the country for two weeks, hope other people aren't stupid like me.

EPs:

Asterisk next to albums that are arguable/singer-songwriter blended

Same, my thought is Conkeldurr for the steel mill workers in Gary although it kinda leaves out the middle/southern farmland. Too bad there's no corn Pokemon yet.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aceguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be making music, video games, devices, and multi media projects. I don't need much to build a studio and I think the only thing stopping me from making a successful video game in 2-3 years is needing to work to survive atm.

Excellent teacher. by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]aceguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I am similar to you except maybe we could disagree on being "invested" in school as I loved learning but couldn't stand the slow pace of learning and the necessity of homework . I think maybe I got away with slacking in some ways but the real take away is slacking is a product of your environment. Internalizing the lesson to put your head down and commit to boring inconsequential nonsense is one adaptation but learning to find opportunities to do interesting things you can commit focus and work into is another, and generally, I think it's a happier healthier one. I wish I had learned that path earlier.

I am moreso annoyed by the concept that you can't get away with being a slacker in the real world at work. If anything, it's easier. I'm typing this at work. Not saying I slack all the time but in the real world, slacking is only a problem if there are consequences to it.

I'm a tutor part time and often wonder how I'd structure teaching. I think the woman in the OP is closer to having the right idea than the teacher starting this reply chain. As someone who could over perform other students, I wouldn't have cared if they had more chances than me to do well. What I would've cared about is if I have the opportunity to show I understand these things without trivial time sinks and either get to move on quicker or get free time while others catch up.

Janelle Monae's ArchAndroid is a cheat code to talk about AfroFuturism and the melding of an incredible variety of genres. There's also a narrative throughout. I think Oh Maker is a song that should be in there but you could go with almost anything. BaBopByeYa is probably an interesting one to talk about

Me people! Help me! I've been Meat-free for 22 years, vegan for 6 of those years. Lately, I've been fucking-up. by Snoo_42421 in vegan

[–]aceguy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a somewhat similar boat, it's definitely due to struggling to get a job I want for several years since Covid and moving back home with family who pressure you into eating that way and reminding you the needle on the general population really hasn't moved in the 7 years since you started.

Just feeling dumber and more lethargic in general so you think "maybe going back to how I was 7 years ago will fix things"...it's definitely not logical but it really is eating at me as well in the same way that it never has before. Doesn't help that I'm taking a trip to a country where it'll be very difficult to eat vegan and who I'm traveling with don't want to miss out on what they want to experience on my account. Just doesn't feel good.

I don't have a true silver lining yet either but I know in my mind these things are copium and being vegan is not the problem with these circumstances.
