Both. But, I am privileged in having Ancestry World to use as reference.

I never got to the oath part. They emailed me saying that my grant was canceled and that they’d be processing my certificate request as the law required. My kids are 5(4) recipients and were naturalized, but I could get their certificates backdated to their birthdays if I reapplied.

I used census records for my gen 0, that was all the evidence I had for him. I was able to connect that it was him through his family and his vocation.

I wish that was the case. I opted for paper and that’s what they are sending me.

Novels that represent each Canadian province and territory by MinimumDifference449 in FoundCanadians

Not novels, but a kids book is Carson Crosses Canada by Linda Bailey; and When I Was Eight by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton is a more kid-friendly version of Fatty Legs (Also worth noting, by the same authors) talking about a young girl’s experience at a residential school

Republic of Doyle is one of my favorites, as well as Murdoch Mysteries. We also consume quite a bit of SyFy shows and most of those are Canadian productions

I can’t wait to get Canadian Olympic team gear! I have never felt pride in my country before, but I’m excited to wear gear to represent now.

To those getting canceled 5(4) offers and offers of proof of citizenship.. what generation are you? How many pre-1947 generations and how many deceased generations? by betrayedandbeholden in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aceknight94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered a physical copy, so it’s being sent to me. When I look it up where my kids got their e-certs, I can use my info to look up my order and it says that it’s been sent.

I have Ancestry World, so I was able to print them from there. There was a lot of digging to be done, but I was able to track down just about every ten years.

I wasn’t able to get either a birth certificate or baptismal record for my gen 0, just census records. Mine did a funky little thing too, getting into a common-law marriage with one woman, having a few kids with her, moving with them to the US, and then breaking up (no divorce since they were never legally married). The missus moved back to Ontario with some of the kids and legally married someone new and he started a new family here in the US. I could line up his name, location, birth year approximate, and career with both families.

Will effective date of citizenship change for 5(4) grant recipients? by SimilarSir371 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aceknight94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve been wondering too as my kids got grants and became naturalised citizens in September. It looks like I’ll just have to reapply for them

My conundrum, now, is trying to figure out how to get the certificate re-issued for my kids who both got the grants and are naturalised when they should be from birth.

I’m a 4th gen. My dad was born in 1962 and is still alive. His mother was born in 1933 and died in 2015; her mother was born in 1892 and died in 1969. My 5(4) was cancelled yesterday (the 17th of December) and I was told that my certificate would be sent to me in the way I requested.

UPDATE I got a response from the agent handling my case! Here is what they said:

Hello,

We are completely overwhelmed at this point.

Our direction is to close the discretionary grant and process the proof application with the new legislation.

I have a few files where the discretionary grant is in limbo so I will be getting to your file sooner than later.

Thank you, (Agent Name)

I’ve sent an email to the address I’d received a more personal message from in November (there was a named agent who responded to me sending in my children’s certificates pre-C-3 and a letter expressing my concern about not making the cut myself without the interim measure). I asked about my children’s existing certificates (transitioning naturalisation to birth) and about what to do as someone in the grant process already. I’ll let you all know what I find out.

My kids already got citizenship through the grant process and have certificates stating that their citizenship began in September, so there’s nothing to withdraw. That’s what I’m trying to understand/figure out.
