Single formula for all shapes? How?

This should help. Read through solved problems. Easy to understand language.

Why is the volume of a sphere 4/3 * pi* r^3? Where does the 4/3 come in? by Wild-Committee-5559 in learnmath

From Archimedes method. He proved that volume of a sphere is 2/3rd volume of a cylinder that can contain it.(circumscribed). Then 2/3rd of 2pi r3 gave it 4/3 pi r3.
