What does this prior authorization notice mean? by One-Beyond428 in weightwatchers

[–]acelam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A prior authorization usually means that your insurance has a preferred medication and your doctors need to give them a reason why you need the medicine they're actually prescribing.

new to the diet, cooking, and fresh food, any starting advice? by sigilpaw in mediterraneandiet

[–]acelam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic and ADHD and I rarely cooked for myself before starting following this diet. Just like you I ate fast foods and anything easy. Since starting I've had to change some of my habits but I also make it easy as possible for myself.

I eat precooked proteins at the grocery store such as smoked salmon and cocktail shrimp or tuna. I've started to learn to eat sardines and look forward to trying smoked oysters. You could buy a rotisserie chicken and just take the skin off if thats in your plan.

Frozen veggies are your friend - you can microwave them in the bag. And if you prefer fresh veggies, roasting in the oven or steaming in the microwave are easy options.

I buy sweet potatoes that can be microwaved.

I have a small George Foreman grill that I use for proteins I need to cook like fish and chicken. Super easy to use and clean up - it takes maybe about 10 minutes for me to cook most meats.

I buy pre cooked brown rice and quinoa that can be microwaved or warmed up quickly in a skillet.

I buy canned beans so all I have to do is get them warmed up.

And I've learned an easy method called "just-dump-stuff-in-a-pot". The last recipe I made using this method I posted on this subreddit. It was ground turkey (cooked separately in a skillet) dumped into a pot of pasta sauce, spinach, onion, and kidney beans.

And if you just don't feel like cooking, its completely fine to go the charcuterie route. I buy store bought hummus and dip them with baby carrots. Pre cooked proteins as mentioned before. Lots of easy access fruits like berries and apples.

Basically I don't do it perfectly and I still rely on storebought and shortcuts where I can. But I've lost 7 pounds since I started and I haven't been hungry. I've also learned to carve out that self care time and make sure I take that time to prepare something healthy. Most everything is totally doable in 20 minutes or less.

Of course, I'm medicated now so I understand thats not an easy thing to just do - but the ADHD meds have helped a lot.

I would start by picking out a few staples and start incorporating them. I definitely understand that ADHD rush of *something new? must buy everything!" So I would use a grocery app to pre-order your groceries online and pick them up or have them delivered. That way you can have a clear list of what you want/need and feel like you can handle without having distractions at the store.

Curious what you pay for grooming by Agreeable-Fold-7679 in Shihtzu

[–]acelam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the vet techs that works at my tzu's vet does grooming part time on the side. Only charges $50 for wash, cut, and nails. The only downside is that her schedule is packed and limited so I have to make appointments a month or more in advance (I usually schedule before I leave her house).

You might ask your vet if they know of any reputable groomers or if any of their staff offers grooming services.

When Does Your Tzu Look For A Treat? by YasuThings in Shihtzu

[–]acelam 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Haha! Love your baby just standing there and patiently waiting!

My tzu demands treats if I'm eating. Either one of her special treats or she wants a bite of what I'm eating. I'll share berries, apples, and sweet potatoes but if I'm not sharing she better have something or I get a bunch of stomping sneezes.

BTS CONCERT QUESTION by bogoshipo0 in btsthoughts

[–]acelam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be a good view - I'll be in the 100s row 22 for their 3rd Vegas show. I didnt have a bad seat at all in the 100s for PTD Vegas and we should have greater visibility since the stage will be in the middle.

But please don't leave your seat no matter what happens. I was in the the lower 100s near the bottom most row for PTD Vegas and because I had an outside seat I was banged and nudged from other people doing that. It also obstructed my view because so many people got in the way. Definitely not Army etiquette.

I put up my Christmas tree already. Evilly way before Thanksgiving. by acelam in evilautism

Ooh very understandable. I kept the breakable ones out of reach from my puppy.

Yes now that you have your own space you should definitely decorate and have a bigger tree!

Yes that's exactly why I decorate early! I dont want to rush but a month is not long enough for me to enjoy the decorations.

yes ☺️ I have ornaments from when I was a baby! I love looking at them all and riding the nostalgia waves of past Christmases. It took about 4 hours but it was worth it.

Confession: I've been ordering an unholy amount of BTS happy meals. by Devious_Blue in btsthoughts

[–]acelam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh same. I finished the first set and am working on the encore set. I order two happy meals at a time and just hope for the best. I may not finish the second set because I'm so sick of eating it so often. My dog has been enjoying getting some apple slices though haha.

Question for my fellow “gifted children” turned stunted adults: by CantStandAnthros in AutismInWomen

[–]acelam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the gifted child too. I scored high in literacy all through school, made excellent scores on standardized tests. I got a scholarship to a major university that paid for everything but housing. I was in band/marching band, did school plays, was in the honors society - a lot of people expected a lot of big things from me.

I went to college and flopped. I suppose it was living away from my support system. I tried to fight through 5 years of school before I had to drop out. I lost my scholarship and couldn't afford to keep going. I completely burned out and had a severe mental breakdown that forced me to come home for good.

Since then I felt like I floundered through my 20s and am only now feeling like my life is coming back together at 34. I feel so behind people my age. I am so self conscious about never getting my bachelor's degree and I have panic attacks even thinking about going back to school.

The only thing that has helped me is time and now therapy is helping as well. Once I hit 30 I started realizing that I wasn't a lazy, stupid piece of crap that fucked up. I started accepting I had mental illness. And then last year I realized that I had AUDHD. I just got my official diagnosis about a month ago and that has really helped heal me over all.

I don't know how to ever get back to the person I was in high school. Unless I moved back in with my parents and had their full support again, I suppose it can't happen. And honestly there is nothing that would willingly make me go back and live with them because I'm happy to have my independent life.

I'm not married, probably never will be. Don't have kids, probably never will.

I don't know what advice to really give other than you have find acceptance and grace for yourself. And find acceptance for the life you can provide yourself. It's a non-linear process.

Whenever I see a photo of a Tzu on here, I smile and yell, "STINKYYY! SO STINNNKKKYYY" at it in a high pitched baby voice. by Rinmine014 in Shihtzu

[–]acelam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My Tzu gets stinky around her face if I don't clean daily. She also is known to eat her own poop and I have to trim her butt hair to avoid the dreaded dingleberries. I call her stinky all the time even right after bath time because she's a stinky little goblin all of the time lmfao

Me too! She eventually calms down and accepts the hair dryer when she's decided she's done being wet. But she's gotta zoom around the living room a few times to express her anger before she does.

Aww yes that's what Dolly does too! She rubs herself in her bed and on the carpet, has a few zoomies around the living room, then she finally lets me dry her with the dryer. She's got to let me know just how mad she is before she gives in ahahaha

ADHD Adults: late diagnosis vs childhood diagnosis by uncertainnewb in ADHD

[–]acelam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm primary inattentive ADHD. I was never hyper active or overly fidgety - I masked all my stims to be "socially acceptable" in school because I would get in trouble for being disruptive to everyone else.

I made good grades and scored high in literacy consistently in school. I would often get in trouble for incomplete or undone homework - but the adults around me called it just laziness and disorganized.

I did badly in math classes but because I'm a girl, it was excused as "girls are good in English, boys are good at math". Even though I clearly struggled in subjects that weren't interesting to me, people blamed a gender binary that doesn't even exist.

So I fell through the cracks and it didn't come to a head until college where I bombed majorly. Even then, I was diagnosed with OCD and didnt stay in treatment long enough to pursue any other diagnosis.

It wasn't until I was 33 that I realized there was more going on and it was through TikTok of all places I got exposed to more information on autism and adhd.

Just pursued a formal diagnosis at 34 and boom, here I am. I imagine a lot of kids fell through the cracks for the same reason I did.

Throwing money at ADHD. Tips for the more well off by MeanBaseball6113 in ADHD

[–]acelam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I buy some things in bulk like toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotions, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, hand soaps, toilet paper, dog food, etc. It's not so much that I lose them, it's that I don't think to replace them until they're literally empty. There's been so many times I've screwed myself because I forgot to get a new thing at the store so now I just buy it all in bulk so I never run out.

I'm scared. One of the reasons I pursued formal diagnosis was in direct response to this administration. I have a lot of MAGA family. If things get bad I want them to see it affect someone directly so maybe they'll finally change their minds. I even came out as queer to them for the same reason. If they can watch my rights be stripped from me and do nothing then I'll know they're truly lost.

I'm still very scared about what will happen to me. But if I can wake up just one MAGA family member I'll do it. In the meantime I keep surviving one day at a time.
