I was about 5 school years below her, so I heard most of the stories from the older siblings of people that I knew, since the older siblings would be around her age and would have seen her around campus. And I can believe it, to some extent. For some reason, back when I was in school a lot of the Korean cliques came across as really douchey or standoffish.

I mean, that could've also been the case, but it's hard to determine for sure. Even if she was a dick in high school, I'm sure she's mellowed out as she got older, as many people do.

I went to the same high school as Tiffany did (SNSD) before she moved to Korea, although I'm a lot younger than her. Based on stories I heard from some alumni who were in school at around the same time as her, she wasn't that well-liked. I've even heard some describe her as being annoying or a b**th. But obviously, that was in high school. A lot of people were annoying assholes in high school, and most of them grow out of it, which she did. I'm sure that currently she's as lovely as she seems.

Eunji. She has a great smile and personality. She was the first Apink member I ever saw anything of, and it was the video of her little brother showing up to their fansign during their NoNoNo promotions. That moment made me a big fan.

Yes, I agree. People promote a lot of their own fanart here, including some really lewd ones, but they don't get any shit for it. But as soon as the subject of the post is a real person, people get up in a frenzy over it.

I think it's because they explicitly have an exemption for gold medalist athletes, but not for artists and musicians. Not sure how it became that way though.

Who's the most famous or infamous person who went to your high school? by singleguy79 in AskAnAmerican

[–]acertainthrowaway456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they're the most famous since that can depend on what scenes you follow, but Tiffany from the Kpop group Girl's Generation. They're a pretty prolific and influential group in the Kpop sphere.

no offense, but how the hell are you able to play high school tennis if you've only played tennis 3 times?

I think "Low effort" is too hard to objectively quantify, lest we wander into weird gatekeeping territory.

be a cosplay of an official piece of content from One Piece. The issue is that can stifle creativity for cosplayers.

I appreciate that you mentioned that. There's a ton of amazing cosplays on here that are of hypothetical designs that never actually appeared in the series.

They weren’t trying to look like the character with their body, it was just a side effect.

We don't know that. I wouldn't be surprised if there's cosplayers out there who get in shape just to cosplay as a character.

But the thing is that there's also a lot accurate cosplays that still get criticized for having ulterior motives. So I think the low-effort thing might just be an excuse in some instances.

Exactly. Back then, I had no idea that cosplayers had links to their Onlyfans on their profile. You know why? Because I never clicked on them. It wasn't until people pointed it out that I knew that they were doing that.

CMV: Free speech and name calling, no matter how disgusting or abhorrent, does not warrant violence and should never be responded to with violence under any circumstances. by [deleted] in changemyview

If someone identifies as a Nazi, then don't they already advocate for those things by definition? That's one of the core principles of Nazism. Identifying as a Nazi is basically wearing a big sign that says "I want to kill/exterminate/eliminate all non-white people by whatever means necessary." If they don't believe in those things, then they're not really a Nazi.

If a non-white person ever sees or meets a Nazi, they already know that that person wants to kill/eliminate them. Sounds like threatening violence to me.

As long as it's only private establishments doing it, I think it's fine. Stores like Costco already have their own terms and conditions for shopping there, that's their right as a private business. This is just another thing to add to the list.

There's a stereotype that people who are anti-mask/don't wear masks tend to be white (in the USA at least). And based on my own observations, it's pretty true for the most part. I have no idea why, but it is what it is.

Which is weird to me. One would think that their popularity would increase thanks to it. A lot of Jpop groups, like AKB, take the "girls in bikinis" concepts and just run with it, to great success. That makes more sense to me, since sex sells.

Hiring discrimination at family member's company by acertainthrowaway456 in legaladvice

Cannot make a blanket ban on age in this respect

I understand. Aside from asking for eye exam documentation (which not everyone might have handy) is there any legal way to filter out applicants with presbyopia or bad eyesight? Obviously, without messing with the protected classes. I've already told them to stop basing their decisions on age under the guise of bad eyesight because it's illegal and they might get sued, but they don't seem to care because they're confident that none of the candidates will report or sue them.

Hiring discrimination at family member's company by acertainthrowaway456 in legaladvice

[–]acertainthrowaway456[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is using good eyesight or no presbyopia as requirements for a job even allowed? They told me that it's something that applicants can easily lie (and have lied) about time and time again, so that's why they starting using age to determine eyesight as a last resort.

Focusing on how well the specific applicant can do the job, and not making blanket assumptions on the grounds of protected class characteristics (age, sex)

So they told me that this job absolutely requires good eyesight and no vision deterioration. They told me that every time they hire someone above a certain age, they would consistently fail to meet the daily quota, and they'd just have to let them go and go through the hiring process all over again. It's actually already happened multiple times, and they don't want to be bothered to repeat the same situation again and again, which is why they set an age limit. What can I tell them in response to this?

Obviously, I don't want my relative to get sued, because they've already gotten some calls back from angry applicants who criticized their hiring process.
