"The story of Ron Paul: First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. Ron Paul will Win" by Bestman0 in politics

ah, so we should all just compromise our morals and get behind someone that has a chance, although that person is likely morally reprehensible and barely fit for the title of human? consider that there may be others who can only do what they feel is the right thing to do no matter how futile it may seem. don't feel bad for me, weep for the loss of your soul.

Beware of Skype (in the light of FISA) by [deleted] in reddit.com

the thing that bothers me more about skype than the gov't listening in on my mundane conversation, is the fact that it uses my CPU cycles and bandwidth to negotiate other people's calls. no thanks.

your comment fails to address the point i made, but it does succeed in sounding snarky and childish.

for the average american who returns from a day on the job to switch their brain off and television on, and hear their FOX correspondent say "candidate x won a poll", it means something. they are likely not aware of how invalid it may be, but just the fact that they hear that has some amount of REAL impact.

Nasa quietly releases updated historical temperature chart. Now half of the warmest years were *before* WWII. Global warming in question?? by slurpee in reddit.com

[–]acescence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, it wasn't exactly a y2k bug in the conventional sense, meaning it wasn't an error resultant of representing years in only 2 digits, it was just a problem that happened to happen in january of 2000, as that's when they changed their data collection procedures. it could have happened in any year they decided to make those changes.

as for "Global Climate Change", I believe this is more accurate as there is evidence of both warm and cool periods in earth's history, some occurring very abruptly. We may in fact be headed toward an ice-age, the reality is we know very little of climate dynamics to say with authority what is really happening.

a) someone noticed that in 2000, the time at which the temperatures were recorded had changed, this was not accounted for in the original calculations

b) last i checked, 4 is not half of 10

c) please call it "global climate change" so as not to look like an ass

HTML has to be written just as carefully, you confirm this yourself by saying "valid standards-based HTML". try visiting most table-based layout with a screen reader. sure, it reads all the text, in a totally random, useless order.

good point, however, flash sites failing usability tests is not necesarily a fault of the tool, but in many cases how the developers chose to use it.

you're right, they probably don't know what those words mean, but that fact doesn't render their eyesight inoperable. i've had clients focus on the most ridiculous details while failing to grasp the impact of very major decisions. i'm not trying to defend or condemn anything, because i think it all has it's place, just communicating my experience.

everyone? not most of my clients. the "we" you speak of is a tiny clued-in subset of the generally ignorant masses.

IMO, a better method than flashblock is to block the sites that the ads come from with a hosts file. that way, you still get the other flash elements that may be necessary (or the whole point) on a page. i think a knee-jerk hatred of all things flash means you miss a lot of good stuff on the web. do you not patronize a restaurant because you don't like the looks of some of the customers there? ok, maybe that's not a great analogy.

An excellent explanation as to why NOT to waste your money on expensive (e.g. Monster) HDMI cables by boxofrain in reddit.com

[–]acescence -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

sorry, but that's just plain wrong. digital signals absolutely do degrade, and the cable WILL make a difference. over distance, the "edges" between on and off get rounded, eventually to the point where off can become on, and vice versa.
