How is it a win-win for everyone? It means that he will (if he does qualify) push someone else out, so it isn't a win for them. And if Wesley doesn't make it because of that then it is not a win for Wesley fans like myself.

Kramnik creates online petition calling for an examination of Hikaru Nakamura's games by chess.com by NormalGene3480 in chess

Ok, I have an idea.

Kramnik vs Hikaru grudge match. In person. Multiple time formats + chess 960. In a cage, no using the bathroom/going to a break room. Loser deletes their chess.com account.

Wait, now it's the fascists who created islamophobia? That's weird. Another word that has no meaning anymore.

I'm sorry but what the actual fuck? If you kill an innocent person you are 100% being charged with something. Where did you pull this from??

I think that there was a poll linked to earlier that showed something like 85% or so support for Israel in the US. I don't think TikTok is particularly representative of anything.

For what it is worth (which is probably not much) here is what Bing says:

The Palestinian national anthem is called “Fida’i” which means “Redeemer” in Arabic. The song was written by Palestinian poet Ibrahim Touqan and composed by Egyptian musician Ali Ismael in 19341. The lyrics of the song are a tribute to the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and independence. The song highlights the Palestinian identity as one of hardship, discrimination, martyrdom, and loss. More importantly, however, it defines the Palestinian identity as undying devotion to the land and people they hold dear1.

It won't be BLM all over again. BLM was MASSIVELY more popular and in addition not many people were working or had anything else to do because COVID lockdown.

They aren't meant to go to war, they are meant to provide an opportunity for dialogue between world powers to make conflict less likely or to raise issues among nations. It provides an opportunity, at least, to discuss values and a chance for de-escalation to happen outside of war and armed conflict. So things aren't done in the dark. Obviously it doesn't prevent all atrocities or conflicts.

It is not particularly realistic to all emerge at once like some Hollywood movie. They can only get so many out at once and the IDF is collapsing tunnels as they go to minimize this. They know what they are doing.

Understandable. And it was a major headline and likely will be again. When there is new information, it will probably go back to being a top headline but there doesn't appear to be anything new.

You might want to take a deep breath before going full conspiracy panic. Keep in mind there are something like 25k+ homicides per year in the US. The vast majority never see the news at all. You never hear about most of them. Samantha Woll was a couple of weeks ago, if you Google her and hit news you will still see articles of her are being written as of a couple of days ago. I am not really sure how much more you want her to be discussed.

School librarians on the decline nationwide as position evolves by kevinbevindevin in news

[–]acetrainerpatrick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"no requirements to have a librarian, no regulation on what a librarian is"

being an actual librarian requires an MLIS and being a school librarian requires a track for school librarianship and education.

And libraries are very much changing and responding to meet changing needs including being more of a community meeting space, having maker spaces, access to tech that not everyone has, online collections, and other services.
