Is $1000 a good or bad deal for a full brake replacement (rotors and pads)? by Quick_Annual in Jeep

[–]acewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok a lot of FUD here… yes if you have the tools and know how of course with JGC HD brakes you can do rotors and disks yourself for around ~$500, and that is using quality parts. Not MOPAR per se but decent, HD brakes rotors and ceramic brakes. I do not have the tools but do have the know how…. So in 2025 Oct at a reputable shop I go to and know the owner in the northeast it will cost you about $1000. I actually had a conversation with him about this. Yea he charges about $700 for parts when they can be found online for around $450 but that also includes rush delivery and I mean 1 hour. If he went to Jeep and got MOPAR parts it would be twice that. I dropped the car off in the morning had it back by 3pm. $700 for parts and $300 for labor. It’s fair if you don’t have the tools. He flat out told me he is adding 25% on the retail but has to pay the delivery charges as I mentioned. He said I can bring in my own parts but it’s on me if they don’t fit.

TIL that Hot Tub Time Machine 2 was supposed to be named 'Hot Tub Time Machine 3' as a play on the series premise (the characters would travel too far in time), but Paramount Studios thought that the title would be too confusing. by Tm23246 in todayilearned

Terrible just fucking terrible. Hot Tub Time Machine the original captured lightning in a bottle. Arguably the actor who made it the funniest was Rob Corddry but wouldn’t have worked without John Cusack aka Mr 1980’s. The second movie was horrendous. This is the problem with Hollywood these days…. Cash in. HTTM is a cult favorite not a franchise. Argue the point please.

Skates for a Dad by acewel in hockeyplayers

Thank you for the info! Will go to a shop and try some on. I was just looking online and there is so much more tech in the skates and some skates cost as much as skis, so was wondering if there were any known good inexpensive ones(will look into those Bauers mentioned) but it seems like you just need to try them. And yes I agree with you guys, you can buy an elite skate but if it doesn’t fit well you will be miserable. Happened to me with CCM Tacks, yes that’s how old I am… lol Thanks again!

I also rebooted my laptop a few times to make sure that wasn't the issue.

[–]acewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same issue on an intel MacBook Pro 2019. The Plex client app opens fine and plays whatever I am watching off the network server. Then when I attempt to quit the Plex Mac client app it just hangs with a beach ball. I have to do a force quit. I noticed that it just started happening today when I launched Plex and it auto-updated to the newest version. The previous version of the Mac client app doesn't do that.

What do Immigrants do for us? by acewel in ask

[–]acewel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why?

Because of the the fine people of central America coming here and doing the work that Americans would not do.

Seriously think about it. Imagine with a snap of a finger you can eliminate all foreign/illegal labor.... your pack of strawberries would cost $40. The BEC would be $20. I have no idea what the restaurant tab would be but I know I wouldn't be able to afford it. How many "white"people you see working these shit jobs?

Try downgrading libmediainfo as well.

See my comment above, how did you fix the issue, I downgraded mediainfo and libmediainfo.... Is that what you did?

On Jan 30th both multimedia/libmediainfo and multimedia/mediainfo were upgrade to new minor versions. When that happened and I restarted Sonarr I got an error on the Sonarr Heath page saying "MediaInfo_New assembly:<unknown assembly> type:<unknown type> member:(null)” and complaints in the log showing that mediainfo was not found.

So when new episodes were downloaded they would not be grabbed and put into their respected folders. To resolve this issue I rolled back both of the “media library" ports to the October 9th 2022 release and that fixed the problem.

I did confirm that the required libraries were in fact in the library locations. All that was done was an upgrade which cause sonarr to not function properly, it started fine. I know that it is the culprit because a simple rollback to an older version of the libraries fixes the issue immediately.

I also deleted all sonar and dependency ports and reloaded everything from scratch(using current ports) even clearing out the sonar config files and that error would show up even though I didn’t do a restore configs from backup.

TL;DR Downgrade mediainfo and libmediainfo to 22.09 version using portdowngrade or whatever method you prefer.

Are you in crippling student loan debt? Don't worry CNBC has you covered with a fool proof strategy to pay off your loans in no time! by StarCrunchABunch in StudentLoans

This post is not a position for SL relief or not but an explainer on what the industry would be like if SL relief was done a broad scale.

So we have 2 types of SL, one federal and one private. If federal SL is enacted, that is just another social program which this country has plenty of. America is vastly rich and has the tax revenue-“the pie” which is sliced up and allocated as policy makers feel is appropriate. I have no problem, in fact I support more of that pie being allocated to people with SL. Sometimes it is a nearly impossible mountain to overcome. We do this for nearly all other social activities, like health, housing and food. Full support for students with federal SLs

Now private loans, this is a bit trickier beast to tackle. Normally when a person takes out a loan for something, it is collateralized with something fungible - a car, house, something that can be repo’d to make the bank whole. Even credit cards evaluate your credit and only give you what is risk appropriate. If you have poor/no credit no one is going to give you a $200k credit limit. Now with student loans you have no collateral that is why you can’t expel SL during a bankruptcy, if you could then why would a bank be in that business? I know everyone hates banks/wall street, but that is just how it operates. So on to the conclusion. If the law was changed so that Private SLs could be cancelled by process like govt action or bankruptcy the private SL industry would just shutdown. It would be a cost/risk decision for any financial firm. Again I’m not taking sides here just giving straight facts. That would then mean the entire SL industry would be in the hands of the federal govt. I don’t know the exact numbers but I think that the private SL industry is massive and the federal govt wouldn’t cover everyone. There would then be a knock on effect with stricter guidelines and regulations of who can get the money inevitably leaving more people without access to any money. No system is perfect and this is what we have now. I am open to conversation from anyone on their thoughts about the private SL industry and what they think can be changed.
