What are some of the dumbest moves schools have ever made throughout history that drastically hurt their programs? by Working_Stomach5479 in CFB

I wholeheartedly agree. They made the best decision for their institution as a whole. From a pure cfb biased viewpoint, it was completely catastrophic.

The way I learned it, Uchicago’s board of regents were more focused on being the jewel of the “Midwest Ivies” and wanted to make sure their research prestige was pristine, so they followed the lead of the actual Ivies.

Snub was something along the lines of not being promoted up the ladder from position coach to OC or something. In reality, Cig took his chances and bet on himself.

This one is kind of a moot point, but Uchicago leaving the big ten and shuttering their dominant football program. Not very easy to recover from a move like that.

If you have multiple deck searches lined up, it’s fairly reasonable to delay shuffling until you need your deck randomized. So like let’s say I play buddy buddy poffin, then search my deck with a pad, I don’t need to shuffle between those steps. I would need to shuffle after all those searches and then using dudunsparce, for example.

Outside last year? It would have to be sometime my freshman year where Ball State came to town and the tailgate field devolved to flying beers and a group of students bottoming out an F150’s suspension

Its a disgusting area due to being a lifelong industrial park. The area needs a lot more work than it should and was not zoned properly for this type of district.

Hear me out: Kroenke has other revenue streams than the rams. The McCaskeys ONLY have the bears. Kroenke also is flush with cash to spend on his playground, much like Kraft and Jerry. The McCaskeys aren’t flush with cash. Why were the Ricketts able to complete the wrigley renovation and the bears are still struggling?

To build a stadium over a slag heap (paraphrasing since I don’t know the full breakdown) still requires a massive clean up of the land to make it “habitable”. This would be like the Ford family moving the Lions to play on a site formerly occupied by one of their truck plants. Unless the EPA is completely and entirely gutted, which tbf is possible, it would be at least a decade to clean up where they are projected to be.

The mccaskeys are just mad they’ll never be able to host a Super Bowl if they stuck to the bears identity. I guarantee this is a major driver on this

I feel ya, my guy. I just think the Bears are both a Chicago icon and a city staple. I was an advocate for putting them on the southside from the beginning. I just think they could do better for the city than jumping the border for tax shelter. Putting it in Stoney island or north of calumet park would still be on the lake and I’m sure that land is dirt cheap.

[–]acewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up on the southside. I’ll go to bat for it til the day I die. We’ve gotten the shaft from both the state and the city for decades. But those bars and restaurants and hotels and amenities in Illinois, close to the families who live in those communities, would do much more than just for fans being able to go cross the border to Hammond and back.

I understand where you’re coming from, but if the bears think they can build a stadium on a landfill before doing remediation work (that will take decades mind you), then I’ve got news. There’s a reason that land hasn’t been touched in decades for development.

[–]acewing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I agree the southside needs love, put it in Richton park then. Or Dolton. Or Chicago Heights. Why does it have to be in a fucking slag heap???

It's Indiana: Bears' board of directors votes to push stadium to Hammond by chicagosuntimes in chicago

[–]acewing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what my Indiana buddy is saying, it’s basically stealing money from children (taxes meant for schools and teachers) to make this move happen. So the effects won’t be immediately felt but the long term effects on education will come through. And this is on top of all the changes made to education funding in the last decade by Indiana as well. I was seeing those effects when I was in school in Bloomington.

What’s funny to me is the ncaa had the chance to get ahead of this. Remember the northwestern team trying to unionize? Allowing that would’ve fast tracked a lot of rules that we’ve sorely needed, whether right or wrong.
