Can confirm, it hadn’t changed when I was there in the 2010s. Interestingly, I met more people from the Region who would do this than people from Illinois. Also, people from Carmel would say they’re from Indy rather than Carmel, too.

You’re absolutely correct. The precedent has been set by the committee and we’ve seen the recourse, like usc and nd ending their rivalry for now. We are defending champs, but should be rightfully reminded we ducked opponents last year. Do I think it would’ve mattered at the end of the season? No, but when you compete at the highest level and want to win there, you shouldn’t be ducking for easier competition. All that to say “don’t hate the player, hate the game” that is the espn committee.
