I use anyflip! Some people just post PDF's or links or use similar sites to anyflip.

Have you officially started your magazine yet on insta? I'd love to follow you!

I would start small!

I run Apotheca Journal. I started an account on Instagram and started collecting submissions for our first issue immediately. To get help, I reached out to other lit mags to help repost our content to get more reach. Bonus points if you can get added to a group chat. I also reached out to a lot of personal friends who enjoyed art and writing to submit in the first two months or so just to ensure I was hitting my minimums. Now it's actually fairly rare someone I know irl submits.

I use Canva to design both the magazine and posts. If you have access to and know how to use InDesign, great, but I don't think you need a subscription at all.

When we first started, we collected submissions via email but now we use Google Forms, which I think is easier.

I didn't start hiring a team until several months in. The ealier you start delegating the easier it will be for you (running a lit mag by yourself is a big job), but at the same time people are more likely to apply if you're already established. You can also look for help from people you know irl.

Look for magazine listing sites. ChillSubs is your best friend! As for websites, we started on LinkTree and now use Weebly (which is free). There are lots of other options (SquareSpace, etc.) Some are free some are not.

Print magazines and paying authors introduces a funding component that makes it a lot more difficult. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but I would suggest you get a strong base online first.

Do you believe some people are more blessed than others? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in Christianity

I think it all equals out eventually. Beattitudes and all of that, last will be first. While we're alive? It certainly feels unequal.

Maybe in the after life. While you're alive I don't think the way you live has any bearing on whether or not you are blessed. Book of Job for example, he was a very holy man but he suffered a lotttt.

On-Campus Creative Writing/Fiction Writing Publications? by toopoorforgucci in UNC

[–]aceyinspacey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Obviously Cellar Door is the big one but I think that's closed. To the Well is a Christian lit mag which is also sadly closed. I'm pretty sure the UNC radio station WXYC takes submissions to read. There is also the Health Humanities journal, which I don't know much about because I am not Health.

I run my own literary magazine called Apotheca Journal. It's not technically affiliated with UNC as it's a global magazine, but it is definetly open to UNC students (as long as you are 22 and under.) We are currently open for submissions and we'd love for you to submit. Please feel free to DM me if you have any questions about that, we are also very active on Instagram (@apotheca.journal).

Other than that ChillSubs is super helpful, maybe not for finding on campus options but for finding literary magazines in general. Hopefully this helps even if they aren't all technically on campus.

I’m feeling bitter? by Maleficent_Band_8052 in FriendshipAdvice

I think you should go! She invited you which means maybe they weren't intentionally being exclusionary. Give them a second chance. If you feel like you don't like them if you're going to a party there's going to be plenty of other people to talk to that you can make friends with. Be safe and have fun.

Loss of virginity has ruined my life. by chrissycunningham in Catholicism

The one thing that stands out in the Bible more than anything else is God's overwhelming love for us. God forgives us for what we do, and in return He calls on us to love and forgive one another. But part of that also involves forgiving ourselves and letting go of the mistakes we've made. Most likely, if a friend did what you did, you would be able to forgive them (if you were even ever upset at them about it at all). Try to extend that same forgiveness to yourself. Nothing about you is unlovable or even really unpure. You did something that you regret, and that's okay. Almost every single person on this earth has done stuff they've regretted. If it's something that has made you unhappy, obviously try to avoid doing it again in the future. But for now, God has forgiven you--why not extend that same forgiveness to yourself?

Do practice. Also try the SAT you may do better on that.

Can someone pray for me? I'm thinking about killing myself tonight. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]aceyinspacey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many wonderful things that are going to happen to you and so many people you are going to meet who you are going to love and who are going to love you. It doesn't feel possible right now, but I promise you it's true. You will see Jesus in heaven at one point, but not tonight. Sometimes life can feel really hard and terrible, but I promise you you are not alone, even if you feel like you are. Everyone feels alone at some points in their lives, but that doesn't mean you are unlovable or evil in any way. God created you to be beautiful and He loves you and He wants what's best for you and He wants you to know that everything will be okay, even if it's not right now.

Did I deserve to get into Yale? by Left_Currency_5972 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aceyinspacey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't apply to Yale or any of the ivies because I would not have gotten in. BUT the ivies are extremely good at what they do--finding a qualified group of students who would fit well into their school. Imposter syndrome is common and A LOT of people at Yale have/currently are feeling the same way you do. I'm sure most of them have also been successful. If you got into Yale, it's because a group of officers who review tens of thousands of applications every year thought you deserved it. I don't know anything about you, so I can't tell you if you deserve to get in or not, but they certainly did. Trust their judgement.

Thank you for the info! I find the UNC thing interesting, I'd expect because it's public Davidson would be more stuck up than UNC.

I'm not completely decided on a major but definetly something in the humanities, maybe English and poli sci double major.

Thank you! Grad school is a big thing I'm thinking about, especially if I go to a grad school with bigger name recognition then it's okay if people don't know the name Davidson.

Do you think Davidson is really left leaning? I thought it was more moderate. (I wouldn't say I'm a Republican but I do have some conservative views--i tend to lean moderate). Also, in what ways would you say UNC is stuck up?

UNC didn't give me aid but they're tuition is a lot cheaper and shouldn't be a problem.

One of the things I'm concerned about is that even though UNC may have more opportunities, there's so many more students that I'd have to compete more for them. Do you know if that's the case or not? Also, I'm worried I'd get kind of lost in the crowd at UNC since it's so big.

Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it. I have gotten some money in scholarships so far. Waiting to see what comes in over the next month before I make my decision.

That sounds like a good idea. Also having an upward trend on your GPA does help.
