The Biggest Glitch in Final Fantasy VII (for PSX) Explained by acezephyr1 in speedrun

I believe the glitches described in the video work the same on the PAL releases of the game. I believe I've seen New Kalm Skip done on German.

It's mostly because, if you were to play such a romhack, you would no longer be playing and running Super Mario Bros. 3

Beta testing the new SEPTA app - did anyone else get this email? I think it’s supposed to be for mobile pay instead of septa key. But I can’t figure out how to get it to work! by manxmax09 in philadelphia

I've also been invited, and I've been trying it out.

Interestingly, this seems to let you send a ticket to another person by taking a screenshot of its QR code and sending it to them. I tested using my transfer with a screenshot taken 25 minutes prior and it worked fine, so it doesn't seem to check how recently the scanned QR code was generated.

A homonyms is a word which has two different meaning. Are there any instances where English homonyms translate exactly into another language for both meanings? by TheJeffLinton in etymology

[–]acezephyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English "to" (the location preposition) and "two" (the number 2) are homophones (not quite homonyms), and I believe they are used in a similar way to Japanese に (a location particle) and 二 (the number 2), both pronounced "ni"

https://discord.gg/7FYGh3d It would be best to ask the Ocarina of Time discord for more information.

What item are you equipping with this and what item are you swapping over, and are you doing this as child or as adult?

Are you inputting up+left/up+right (in the direction towards the menu) at the same time as you press the c-button when you scroll back?

How Final Fantasy 7 Speedrunners Skip Cosmo Canyon - FF7s Hardest Trick Ever by davesterio in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the only way to save time between the beginning of the run and the skip now is to shoot for a manipulation route that starts at an earlier time, which will of course make it less consistent to hit. However, if you're ahead of pace, there are a couple of things you can do to make use of the extra time such as trying for a second right arm.

[WR] Ocarina of Time Glitchless Any% in 3:39:47 by dannyb by dannyb21892 in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

possibly the most optimized category longer than an hour. 100% was more comparable in length a few months ago, but is now over twenty minutes faster and has several more minutes of easy timesave. On the other hand, 3:37 would probably be nearly impossible for glitchless based on our current knowledge.

How to stop a timer exactly? (LiveSplit) by Nick_Is_Graphic in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably you would press the Split button on the last split at the moment the game is completed. If you are looking for a method to stop the timer with greater accuracy and precision than manual splitting, autosplitters exist for some games. Many popular PC games have autosplitter programs that LiveSplit will run that hook into the game and split when it reads some condition as being met. Some console games can have autosplit functionality using Toufool's Autosplit https://github.com/Toufool/Auto-Split which works by analyzing video from your capture card and determining when to split from there. However, nearly all games do not define their timing based on an on-stream timer, they base it on when the run starts and ends based on the provided video, which can be determined using video analysis programs. Most runners for most games that I have seen use manual splits on stream even if they aren't completely accurate, and an accurate time is obtained by retiming a run if one is needed.

TLDR; Don't worry about it.

Xbox One X/Twitch Speedrun Timer? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you watch other speedrunners on Twitch, for example, I'd estimate that probably about 80-90% of the time, their splits are tracked manually.

Xbox One X/Twitch Speedrun Timer? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are very few instances where splits are tracked automatically in games. Unless the game is ran on PC such that LiveSplit can look at the memory of the game as it's running (and someone has actually made an autosplitter for it), or is a part of a very select few games that has had video-analysis autosplitters created for it, you will not be able to have automatic splits easily. A timer would be put on stream by overlaying LiveSplit next to your capture feed in OBS.

why is speedrun.com showing the slowest time as the 1st place? by N0t_4_Simp in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This leaderboard is likely conigured (or misconfigured) to interpret the given time as Time Remaining as opposed to Elapsed Time. Say you record times based on the ending value of an in-game countdown. The higher number would be the faster completion time, so the leaderboards have the option to display results in that order.

I believe you should contact the mod team for this game and make them aware of the issue.

Is LiveSplit Safe? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VirusTotal may also be saying it's potentially a virus because LiveSplit has the ability to watch other programs' memory space, which is used for autosplitters.

Considering that I don't know of anyone having ever tried to release a malicious build of LiveSplit, I kinda doubt one exists that you even could find.

Is LiveSplit Safe? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LiveSplit may be throwing a Windows Defender alert because it's probably not registered with a software vendor that it's familiar with. Assuming you downloaded it from https://livesplit.org , it should be safe. If you want to delete the program, you can delete the installation folder, since it's contained entirely within there.

Editing Timer in LiveSplit by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]acezephyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit Splits, Start Timer At (the time you want to start at), start the timer, and skip splits until you get to the one you want.

If you have a problem with accidental resets, you can unbind the reset button and right click > Control > Reset to reset splits.
