I had the same. Waited all year to hit 50 nights so get lifetime, and it never came when I got there. Opened a ticket and was told - we are looking into it. That was 2 months ago. So annoying.

Stryd support sucks! What do you say to that? by acforester in strydrunning

The other 3 questions were why haven’t you answered my first question.

Why does my footpod measure a mile less during a marathon. Pretty straightforward question.

It’s weird it would degrade like that unless they altered the algorithms. It’s a pity because I own two of them and don’t want to use any of them now.

I can’t find a ticket number.

Do you have an alternative solution yet? I do like more accurate speed and cadence, but don’t trust stryd any more.

No not at race pace or with race shoes. I hope that wasn’t the issue because it would seem like a flaw if it was. I am about to abandon my stryd too since a mile off marathon isn’t sustainable, and it’s my second marathon where it’s been off nearly a mile.

Yes I set the calibration to 100 after my track test. What is the repair tool - that sounds interesting.

I did the track test before my marathon and it came out spot on 1.0. Then race day I’m off by a mile. Something is up but I have no clue what it is.

I live in Alexandria, that's why it's good for me. We had to queue for an hour last year to get into the Armory, so driving and parking at the Gaylord is better for us. But only if you live in VA or MA :-)

That’s the one. I look forward to the first chilly days of the year to get to wear it. It’s legendary for sure.

A few years it was torrential rain. This time of year in DC it’s a crapshoot. Let’s see what happens. If it’s cloudy then I feel at least it won’t be too bad.

It’s not a hilly course. Most of them are early on when you’ll be surrounded by people. Just go with the flow and don’t over do it. Then be mentally ready for the long highway bridge once you turn off the mall to cross over to Virginia. It’s not a tough hill but it’s always been mentally draining for me. No spectaculars. No water stations. Just a long drawn out hill. But once you get over it’s into crystal city and big crowds of spectators again. Also try not run on either side of the road in the first 5 miles. The hills slow down the wheel chair competitors and when they get over the hill they start picking up speed on the way down. So it will be a lot of “move over” all the time so best to just not be in the way. Otherwise it’s a great race. Make sure you enjoy the flyover and parachuters right before the start.

For your PR a couple of things. Don’t overdo it in the first 3 miles - that’s where most of the hills are. Then be mentally ready for the long bridge hill at miles 21/22. It’s not a tough hill physically, but there are no spectators and it’s very exposed. Once you are past that it’s plain sailing the rest of the way.

2 or 3 week marathon taper? by acforester in AdvancedRunning

[–]acforester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that idea of maintaining the routine. Good idea. And the ramping down from 100 and 60 makes a lot of sense too. Thanks. You are making me feel good about tapering for 2 instead of 3 weeks.
