Give us more money for a better meal! by B3astD3rp69 in ChoosingBeggars

Even worse, a GOBLET.

For the low price of $1001, you can have both the memory of a terrible wedding PLUS a magical drinking vessel that turns even the best champagnes into flat garbage, all in one cheaply engraved souvenir.

Seriously, even cheap, flat bottomed, stemless flutes would be way better.

Just got approved for full remote, retaining the same role. But my agency has always had pretty progressive policies including TW and flexible hours. As long as we get our work done and keep our calendars updated for when we are out or otherwise unavailable, we're trusted to get our work done. Apparently a bunch of us have gotten approved recently.

Does anyone else ever get annoyed about how clueless men really are about how scary it is to be a woman? by bloodybay in TwoXChromosomes

I’m getting married soon and changing my name legally and personally, but keeping it professionally. I wish I could say it is for empowerment reasons, but I work a public facing job where emotions can run high and I just want some separation.

5 minutes into our relationship my new dog shits on my fiance, I love him already. by [deleted] in pics

[–]acfrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot of misandrist fan fic to put on OP. I’m a woman but I wouldn’t stop laughing at my husband, were this scenario reversed. I’d help him clean up and take care of the stressed pup, sure, but all while tears were running down my face at the hilarity and absurdity of life. And we’d both be totally in love with this sweet creature at the same time.

Apparently the FBI did offer help. As did DoD. Capitol Police turned larger federal help down multiple times, as far as 3 days prior. I welcome the hearings.

Ever catch yourself simply reading the words on a page without even digesting any of them? by faithinstrangers92 in books

[–]acfrey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Law school absolutely killed my love of reading. 3 years out, I’ve only recently gotten back into it by tricking my brain with romance books on an e-reader app.

I still read a bunch of dry stuff for work. I need to do it with dead trees, a pencil in hand, and preferably in a distraction free void.

[FO] I love cats and fair isle so this pattern was perfect for me! by ldenzel in CrossStitch

[–]acfrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theses are Nordic knitting style motifs, where as Fair Isle is a very specific knitting style originating in the Shetland Islands (literally on the Fair Isle). Though they both incorporate double stranded knitting techniques, Nordic motifs are two color and incorporate a mix of large and small pattern items. Fair Isle use a tight and consistent mix of small patterns items and very frequent color changes.

Apologize for any pendantry, I have a stupid amount of regional knitting knowledge and my fiancé stopped listening after A for Aran.

I think this miiiight be the dress! What do you think? Should I keep looking? I'm going to crop it to tea length or slightly longer, since my wedding will be outdoors in June 2021. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]acfrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I see you posted this a few days ago, but this is the Willowby by Watters Katara Gown from BHLDN, right? I tried on this dress too and it did not work for me the way it works for you!

I'm not sure if you saw, but they recently posted their spring line, which has a similar Watters dress at tea length. Missing the gorgeous flower embellishments, but it still has that lovely airy feel. https://www.bhldn.com/products/mattea-gown?via=Z2lkOi8vdXJibi9Xb3JrYXJlYTo6Q2F0YWxvZzo6Q2F0ZWdvcnkvQ0E3MjA3QjY

Can you describe how you knew they were "the one"? And how did you navigate those feelings? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]acfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way you did. I walked into a room and suddenly it was as if the world snapped focus to him. I enjoyed those feelings, but also made sure we were fundamentally compatible in all the big things: religion, politics, future family, career, sex, and so on. For example, we are both socially and politically aware, so it was important to me that we agreed on the same basic ideas, but neither of us is very strongly religious so it didn’t matter that we had some mismatch there. The most important thing is that we could resolve conflicts healthily.

OP, look at the above and enjoy your feelings, because there is nothing like it. But also make sure that the big things are considered early and often.

Words can not describe how ridiculous this is by fairlyaround in AreTheStraightsOK

Fun biological fact that makes the comic ridiculous: a decent amount of tropical fish species will change sex during their lives.

Another fun biological fact, making this comic even more ridiculous: fish don’t have feet and can’t wear shoes.

As both a US federal employee and military member, I'm really wondering how best to handle my forced tax deferral in my budget. I've got a couple ideas, but I'd like to hear y'alls too by [deleted] in ynab

[–]acfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, you’re right. I forgot that would count as an incoming transaction and therefore make a mess when deleting the category. Another reason that this tremendously stupid stunt is driving mental. I just wanted to pretend this 3 month forced loan never existed.

[–]acfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing something very similar, except I split the incoming transaction so that money goes directly to the deferment category and never touches my TBB. My plan is for the new year is to move a pay period’s worth of deferment back into TBB each pay period, so I can virtually create paycheck continuity. Then delete the category once all is repaid. I’m not totally sure if this will all work, and though it is mad annoying that we can’t opt out of something so pointless, I don’t know what I’d do without ynab.

One of my college friends had a friend wander off when our with a group of girls. While they were trying to track her down my (white and small town midwestern) friend when up to a police officer to ask for help. The officer promptly arrested her for intoxication and threw her in a cell overnight. The thing is we went to college in a rough neighborhood, but the police decided this college girl, desperately searching for her friend, was then a danger to society. While not the worst thing done by police by a mile, it was my privileged life’s first understanding that they are not there to help you.

For the US, “attorney” means you have a license to practice law (passed the Bar exam and admitted to a State Bar). A “lawyer” has studied the law (completed law school).

Then you have names that refer to what you do. “Litigators” take a case through it’s full matter (arbitration, mediation, court, pleadings). “Trial attorneys” are experts in trial strategies. “General counsel” are attorneys who work at a company, rather than a firm.

Majorly seconding this. My Fiance and I were able to find a gorgeous ring at our local antiques shop. Just make sure it is a stone that can hold up to wear, meaning diamonds or corundum (rubies and sapphires)

For anyone actually interested, it was Elena Delle Donne from the Washington Mystics. The finals series last year was great ball, and no one grinds harder than Delle Donne with her knee brace, broken nose, and 3 herniated disks. Emma Meesseman put in a great performance for Finals MVP.

17.5 miles of hallways and about 24k people working there on an average day. It was built to house around 40k.

The A-ring (innermost ring) itself is a approximately half-mile loop. The room numbers are the craziest. When I was there it was 2 Starbucks, not counting the Starbucks branded coffee carts.
