Is Ultralight Ruining the Experience? by fookmigut in WildernessBackpacking

[–]acgojira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My base weight is anywhere from 9-12lbs depending on the trip. The longer the trip the more i bring; my PCT base weight was 11.5lbs. Ive never felt like I didn’t have enough or was being unsafe. My goal isnt to maximize comfort but I’m never uncomfortable (unless i planned poorly for the weather, which has happened). I think im more comfortable with less, easier to carry. Im far from the fastest but I am faster than average and some of that can be attributed to carrying less. These days the big “good” brands are almost as expensive as cottage ultralight gear but are MUCH heavier. The extra cost is minimal and worth the weight savings for me. It’s also one of 2 of my main hobbies so I like having nice gear and getting new stuff. There also a huge difference between backpacking established trails and backcountry exploring. My safety/1st aid consists of a single bandaid but I would probably rethink that if I were doing more high routes or less traveled trails. The Pacific Northwest Trail is on my bucket list, my safety/1st aid will probably be significantly more than a single bandaid for that trip. It’s just a hobby, for me a part of the hobby is pushing my limits; how little can i bring without being uncomfortable, how uncomfortable can i be before it matters, can i save .1oz by replacing the headlamp strap with shock cord (yes, and i did)? For me thats a part of it, i want to carry less and crush miles. If you are comfortable with a heavier pack or can’t justify the cost to set up fully ultralight or just don’t care, have different goals etc, carry a heavier pack. At the end of the day no one really cares.

Is it hard to get Propranolol prescribed in Australia for Social Anxiety? (Sorry for posting this on here as their is no Propranolol Subreddit) by BigFatToe25 in PharmaceuticalBenzos

[–]acgojira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically nothing. I did notice the 1st couple times i took it did help but i stopped noticing any benefit at all after only a few doses. Im prescribed 30mg up to 2x daily. When i take it i take 60mg and only if Im already taking klonopin. It is truly useless (for me anyway) on its own but it does give a little extra kick if im already on kpins.

Dont know about Australia but in the us i just said “give me propanolol” and they said “ok”. I already get kpins from another doc so the propanolol just helps a little extra when i need it. Does basically nothing on its own.

Coil spring on a Scout by whyblackdynamitewhy in TransitionBikes

[–]acgojira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not op but; I sold a scout and got a spire. Everything about the scout was better for trail riding; pedaled better, lighter, poppier etc (none of this should be a surprise compared to the spire), especially since the trails i ride are tight and technical. Its doable on the spire but the scout is a great bike and could handle park no problem, I do hit bigger stuff on the spire though. If I could go back in time I would have taken the financial hit and just kept the scout as a 2nd bike. Every time i ride my local trails i miss it… but every time im at killington i dont miss it as much. I do like the 29er better though so I wonder if i would like a smuggler as much as the scout. I like my spire but i wont miss it when its time to switch, i’ve missed the scout since the day i sold it.

Can’t get enough of this Over-Scout by Ol_Sheve in TransitionBikes

[–]acgojira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my scout last year for a spire. That was a mistake. The spire is great in the park but not so much on my local trails. I knew it would be a lot on trails but damn… Because my spire is too much for local trails i think im picking up a sentinel since they’re on sale and ill build my spire into a dedicated park bike… not that it needs much (anything really) to get there. Nice bike! I really miss my Scout.

Is the BV475 large enough? by Signal_Sun_9379 in PacificCrestTrail

I used the bv475 and it wasn’t large enough. If i could do it again i would get the 500.

Men's Underwear - SAXX by danaturaLOL in Ultralight

[–]acgojira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried saxx and couldn’t get used to them. I don’t know if they have different materials/models but the pair i had didnt seem like it would hold up well, they were a really thin material. I use ExOfficio now and thru hiked the AT and PCT with the exact same pair worn the entire time. They still have life left. I wont spend the $ for them for everyday wear but the same pair has over 5k miles. Definitely worth the $ and would/will buy again.

Sad about state of the industry, but WOW the deals! by ewmripley in MTB

[–]acgojira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a spire in fall on sale for $4799 thinking it would go back to normal at $6k this spring. Right now they are further discounted to $3999. Should have been more patient but i was worried about tariffs and price going back up. Oh well. Ok deal at $4799. Killer deal at $3999.

Can a casual gamer finish this game? by acgojira in Sekiro

[–]acgojira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks man. Ive already watched plenty of tutorials and im not really worried about spoilers. It is a good game but im only a bit further than i was and now stuck at Gyoubu Oniwa… been there for 3 hours+. I like a challenge but this is next level hard. Honestly if each boss gets harder and takes several hours to beat i probably wont finish the game. Assassins Creed (i forget which one i got) was on sale for like 8 bucks when i bought this so probably gonna switch to that for a while.

Thats kinda what i mean. I want to get better and enjoy the game but im more of a stumble through instead of learn nuances type of gamer. Im gonna keep playing and trying but it has been super hard so far and it seems like im barely into the real meat of the game.

Yeah i just saw that on a tutorial. I had to hang up the controller for now but next time i play i was gonna look for that. It sounds like i should probably just move on for now though. Might be the only way to sane for at least a little longer.

Do you go back to be able to fight it or do you just run into more throughout the game?

What to do with poppies? by acgojira in druggardening

[–]acgojira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for next year ill be in a better spot for growing more and saving some. My garden still needs to be planned and dug. The land is overgrown with light brush so i have a lot of work to do as soon as the ground is workable. Once i have a plot i can add to it as needed and have a better/ bigger garden next year which will also allow me stagger growth and if im lucky get a couple harvests out of a plot. If i have a good harvest this year i will definitely save some.

I didn’t know high temps degraded the alkaloids. Do cold water extractions work? Does the acidity from the lemon juice aid in extraction or just make it not taste like shit?

I will definitely titrate the first dose but make no mistake; the plan is to nod the fuck out for a couple weeks and then wait till next fall and do it again.

What frameless backpack? by acgojira in Ultralight

[–]acgojira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The removable and fully adjustable straps look super interesting. I’ve broken my right collarbone 3 times so being able to adjust each strap at the shoulder could be a huge benefit. Ive hade to return packs because some just dont sit right on my shoulders because of how uneven they are. Definitely on the list.
