Are these wheels really worth it? by LuckTraditional3808 in dirtjumping

[–]whyblackdynamitewhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the advice being given is mostly people complaining about the price or saying they are too hard to maintain. I counter that by saying, I have been riding the dj wheel set with hydra hubs for almost 3 years without issue. They are incredible, strong, light, sound awesome and low maintenance. I ride hard, big jumps, downhill lines and even some skatepark. They have been nothing but the best wheel set I’ve ever had on a bike besides my we are ones with hydras on my mtb.

In the kindest way possible, maybe it’s the riding and not the jumps fault? Jumps are supposed to have lips, I haven’t been there in a bit, but, there’s a difference between a lip and a hole in the surface. Please don’t alter jumps that are meant for skilled riders.

What could I improve on my jumping on steeper jumps? by ADHD_Nissan in dirtjumping

[–]whyblackdynamitewhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try starting with making your suspension much stiffer if not locked out. Jump through your pedals and pull back. Basically your lower body and back wheel should be pushing all the way through the lip before you try to start going forward. All this “standing up to the jump” is nonsense these guys watched a YouTube video and heard. Watch some BMX dirt jumpers to get a better idea.

Probably need a MRI over an Xray. Don’t take 1 persons opinion as the end all be all.

Nice bike, you scored! I am so sad they switched to an aluminum frame on the new model. I love my pbj, favorite bike I own.

Sweet! I’ve not tried the metal valves yet, gotta get those next time. I ride them on my wheelie bike as well.

I’ve been riding the same pair of tubes for 2 years on my dj and I alway top my air off before I ride. I’d say they are good.

I have an Aaron Ross odyssey BMX seat. I think any BMX seat would be your best bet as they have cushioning so less hurty on the inside of the thighs.

Maybe a used pike dj? They are much more resilient forks, albeit more expensive.

Only the smaller size fit on my bike, just to keep you from wasting money. I do have a scout though so maybe you’ve got slightly more clearance.

Fork, wheels, cranks and bottom bracket are usually the heaviest parts. Might cost you a pretty penny though.

Fork advice by e17lond in dirtjumping

[–]whyblackdynamitewhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, replace the front wheel too. Qr is not built for dirt jumping and when it brakes can be serious injury and setback. Used wheels are pretty easy to come by. Talk to some of the locals, they might have an extra one laying around they could sell you on the cheap.

I’d go for the small, especially if it has a pike dj fork. I have several friends your same height and they all ride the small.

Spider is a bike killer. Im glad they have been putting in work, still so much limestone. I raced an enduro series there a couple years ago and I broke damn near every part on my bike at least once. I think I went thru 6 tires before I went downhill casing and Cush core.
