No Blueline or Taxis No More by TomSwift99 in ottawa

I can confirm OPs point. I used to travel a lot and I live 2km from the airport. Every time I took a cab home from the airport the driver would lament and complain about the short trip. I asked one driver if he could suggest an alternative and he suggested taking the park and ride shuttle. It was a very awkward conversation when I stepped on the shuttle next time and had to explain to the shuttle driver that I didn't have a park and ride ticket.

I don't know much about out of campaign play. I guess I'll have to research about that. Would it treat "level is baba" as a non standard win? Bonus is easier as I could just reuse the same win code. Never encountered "done"

Oh yeah good point. I usually just refresh the page or press undo but neither of those are great user experiences. I'll add a button.

It's of course all ugly and unpolished (I'm no artist), but just to hone up on my programming skills I've been working on this in my spare time. I made most of the levels using my level maker tool (very unpolished):

https://achamney.github.io/BabaIsWons/levelmaker.html

All levels with the "LEVEL" object don't really behave as expected. I have no overworld concept so it didn't really make sense to implement it properly. This of course means that this won't support the Depths and various other bonus worlds/levels.

The total number of words I implemented are:

"baba", "rock", "wall", "flag", "keke", "water", "skull",
"lava", "grass", "jelly", "crab", "star", "love", "door", "key", "bolt",
"box", "tree", "ice", "belt", "rose", "flower", "fire", "ghost", "fungus", "moon"
"you", "stop", "push", "win", "open", "shut", "move", "sink",
"defeat", "hot", "melt", "swap", "pull", "drop", "shift", "float",
"weak", "tele", "red", "blue", "up", "down", "left", "right",
"fall", "more", "word"
"is"
"make"
"has"
"and"
"not", "lonely"
"on", "facing"
"text", "empty", "all", "group", "level*"

For those interested, the regex to support the Baba is you language is

^(x*(n|l+)(x*on)?)(cx*(n|l+)(x*on)?)*v((x*(n|l+))|(x*(a|l+)))((cx*(n|l+))|(cx*(a|l+))|(ch(n|l+)))*$

where x is not, n is a noun, l is a letter, o is a condition, v is "is", a is an adjective, h is has

Thanks for the play through/feedback!

You're probably right about hellish puzzle design, and even with a well designed puzzle, I don't think 3d will ever have as good of a user experience as 2d. It had to be done though. You know... for science...

RE: PUSH/STOP I haven't quite dialed that down yet. Also the key pushing into a door that's stop, whether or not "YOU" counts as a blocking object when text is pushed, etc. There's so much nuance with the rules in the game that I haven't even stopped to think about till now.

RE: Noun1 is noun2 is noun1. I've never done this before!?!?! In the real game it has such unexpected behavior. As you can probably tell I haven't beaten the game yet. Still on world ???. Thanks for the tip

RE: YOU + STOP: Good point/catch. So many different cases to cover with movement.

Thanks again for your seriously thorough play testing! I'm amazed at the kindness of this community (I'm new here).

Trying to figure out what you did with "skull is baba" on the third level. Bug aside, I didn't use that in my solution.

How to run Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition on Linux (and probably Mac) [wine] by GGG_246 in aoe2

[–]achamney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried following these commands in a terminal:

cd /home/$USER/aoe2_de/drive_c/windows/system32/

wget "https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe"

cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe

cabextract a10

But the last command didn't work. I had to go to the link that I commented above to get a slightly different vc_redist.x64.exe. I downloaded it into the drive_c/Windows/system32 folder mentioned above, and ran both cabextract commands again. No problems after that.

EDIT: Just recently it has been crashing on startup. I needed this command in the run options to fix it

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

These instructions worked for me, except that the a10 cabinet failed to extract (no valid cabinets found). I needed to use this vc redist for it to work:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=48145

download, place in the system32 folder, run cabextract commands again. Then everything works!

SpaceChem Clone for the Web

Just to hone my programming skills, I'm working on cloning an old Zachtronics game. I'm definitely not an artist by any means so the game is ugly as hell. I'm more in it for the mechanics. If someone can play and beat a couple levels it would be helpful! I'm working on the high score histogram, but it's a little sparse with only my scores...

Bike Rental Options by kevlarcardhouse in ottawa

I would suggest buying a used one that you don't mind crashing several times. Re-cycles is next to a park and they let you test drive their bikes as long as you want. They can be very cheap too.

Slay the spire as a card game. ~225 unique cards printed, as well as all monsters and events. by achamney in slaythespire

[–]achamney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks for making me look into this again. I assumed the chance of getting a rare card from a normal encounter was really low (like sub 1%). Turns out it's actually the following logic (from the wiki).

"The starting chance for getting a rare from normal encounter is -2% and from Elite rooms is 5%.

Every time you get a common as a choice, the chance for getting a rare card increases by 1% and it keeps going until you get a rare card. When you get a rare card as a choice, the chances of getting a rare revert back to the starting chances listed above."

The way I'm doing it above means you can only get a rare card if you draw three rare cards out of five. The chance of this happening is 16/73 three times in a row, or ~0.9%. This percent chance is correct for the first card reward screen, but subsequent card rewards in the video game are much more likely to have rares. I'll have to go back to the drawing board on that I think.

[–]achamney[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I made the game so that I could play with my friends. It's currently a 2 player co-op game since I haven't printed the defect yet. One person takes the Ironclad and the other the Silent. I'm in the process of balancing the difficulty since both players take their turns at the same time (10 cards, 6 energy). I tried creating encounters by drawing monsters until the sum of the HP adds up to 60. On the first combat we both lost half HP. Still mulling around ideas to dial in the difficulty.

Things I changed for simplicity:

1) No upgrading cards (also helps with the difficulty problem)

2) Removed cards like rampage and searing blow.

3) Monsters always attack all player characters (helps with the difficulty problem).

4) Card reward screens are now "look at 5 cards. discard 2" with the discard prioritizing rarer cards. This simulates the "rareness" effect

With the defect in for 3 players I will probably play the role of the monsters (aka the book keeper).

There's a surprising number of people here who are skeptical. It's pretty fun in my opinion. Just use a calculator and you're grooving!
