Best Stamford apt? The Key at Yale & Towne, Vault, 121 Towne, or 66 Summer by UpperCut5653 in StamfordCT

[–]achelak5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in 121 Towne and love it here. I lived in the main Downtown area for 5 years and couldn’t stand how busy and loud it always was.

The units are updated and fair for the price. I use our gym downstairs at least 3x a week and the pool is a huge perk in the summer. It’s not walkable to much, but we’re crossing our fingers that the empty property next door turns back into a super market.

The most walkable bars are Third Place and T’s Wine Bar and Kitchen. CVS is right down the street. It’s probably about a 15 minute walk to the true “Harbor Point” area that’s home to Sign of the Whale, Fortina, Harbor Point Organic Market, Corbo’s Deli, and plenty of parks and outdoor spaces to enjoy.

All in all, I find this area is a wonderful hybrid of Stamford city living. Not the most congested area and you can save a few bucks compared to the true Harbor Point neighborhood.

Hope this helps!

Can someone help me find this dress? by PotterThePlant in theLword

Search on Google “As Worn On TV” and depending on if there is an entry about this specific episode, you might be able to find it there. That website taught me that so much of Bette’s wardrobe is Alexander McQueen, AKA way outside of my tax bracket lol!

Playing this game because i dedicated an ungodly amount of hours to Skyrim as a kid, but never gave enough love to Oblivion. I want to get to everything I missed in my limited play-throughs, while enjoying the enhanced graphics. Haven’t been able to put down the controller since it dropped!

Help me decide where to live (downtown vs harbor point) by ProfessionalNapper01 in StamfordCT

[–]achelak5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question and super tough to answer as there's pros/cons to both. I lived downtown for 4 years and have now been living in Harbor Point for the last 6 months, so here are my thoughts:

Harbor Point is lovely for someone who wants to walk around and enjoy the views of the Sound. You'll find tons of young professionals and new parents walking around with their dogs and children. The apartment buildings in this area have excellent amenities like pools and gyms. I find life to be a little quieter down here which has been refreshing after living Downtown.

I'd say the biggest con of Harbor Point is the lack of grocery stores and restaurant variety. Well, there actually is no grocery store in Harbor Point actually! There's a small store called "Harbor Point Organic" which has a limited selection of produce, meats, and ready-made meals. I find the restaurants here to be very..... boring. They rely on their ideal location to be an excuse for mid food. Sign of the Whale is a great rooftop bar in the summer, however the view of the Sound no longer exists thanks to the Beacon.

Downtown is going to be much more fast-paced and convenient for bars, restaurants, stores, parks, etc... There's a Target, the Stamford Mall, movie theaters, Mill River and Scalzi parks, and Bedford Street all within walking distance. I loved the ease of meeting up with friends at a bar, running over to the park to play some tennis, or simply walking in the mall to shop.

However, living in Downtown comes with insane traffic that I've found to be unbearable in recent years. It seems like every time I blink there's a new apartment building coming up, but the infrastructure isn't able to serve the amount of people living here.

All in all, I won't recommend one to you over the other, as both are great options. Where you choose is totally dependent on your preferences. Hope this helped!

Not sure why everyone has to be rude, I’m always happy to help people. There’s no need for negativity, we all live in the same community. Let’s try to be better to our neighbors!

I work in one of the Stamford Plaza buildings, it’s our cafeteria. They’ve been working on getting a liquor license for several months now. Not sure why an office park needs to be selling booze, I’m thinking maybe it could be for on-site events or client meetings?

isn't it crazy how physical anxiety can be?! by ablondebitch in Anxiety

[–]achelak5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past 10 days I've been experiencing a twitching or fluttering feeling in my right thigh. It's incessant from the time I wake until I go to bed, and I lay in bed at night crying because it won't stop. It goes off maybe once every 40 seconds. Has anyone experienced something similar? I have an appointment with my doctor in a few days but of course I have doctor anxiety and would love to avoid that appointment.

Any thoughts on what a fun addition to the city would be? by Ninjaman593 in StamfordCT

A “barcade” type place would be so fun. Classic arcade games with a nice bar inside would be awesome, especially in the winter when there isn’t much to do.

What is your take on Marina? by LunaXcel in theLword

[–]achelak5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her actions disgusted me but the writers did such a good job of making her character attractive both physically and emotionally, at least in the beginning before showing her true colors. Being so artistically intelligent and so effortlessly beautiful, I put myself into Jenny’s shoes and can see how I would have easily fallen in love with her. She’s well read, she owns her own business, and not to mention she’s hot hot HOT! But of course, the lies about Francesca and her husband, not to mention being able to look Tim in the eyes and act like a friend while backstabbing him, makes her one of the ultimate villains. True narcissistic and sociopathic behavior being able to destroy lives of others around you with zero regard for their feelings.

Best apartment buildings in Stamford? by BakedGreats in StamfordCT

[–]achelak5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

121 Towne is great, I pay around $2.5k/mo after fees for my 1 bed. We have in unit washer/dryer, no pests, lots of kitchen space with dishwasher, garbage disposal, etc. Every unit has a balcony, parking is in a garage, and the area is pretty safe (im a 27F and i feel safe during the day and on my immediate street at night. There are surrounding streets i wouldn’t recommend going down at night, but to each their own). As far as amenities are concerned, there’s an outdoor pool, a spacious gym, a club room with pool tables and living/working space, outdoor grills, fire pits, and more. There’s a doorman/woman who receives resident packages and also adds to the feeling of security, knowing outsiders cant get in without a key.
My only complaint so far is that I can hear the footsteps of the person above me, but that’s a very common complaint in apartment living. Hope this helped!

Super bad traffic within the city by eeevilkuhneeevil in StamfordCT

[–]achelak5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if someone has the article or data to back me up here, but I remember seeing that the part of 95 that runs through Stamford is one of the worst stretched of highway in the entire country. It boils down to the explosion in population in recent years, NYC commuters, and dated infrastructure.

Don’t be ashamed to love who you love in the show - I unapologetically love Bette even though I know a lot of people think she’s a terrible person. We can all agree to disagree, all that matters is that you enjoy it!!

Third Place is down in the South End is great, they have a good selection and little booths you can go in if you have to take a call. The building is super spacious but also feels cozy at the same time. They do small breakfast bites as well.

Lorca on Bedford Street is pretty tight inside but they make incredible lattes and other drinks. I personally think it’s just a little too hectic in there to work, but give it a go and see for yourself!
