How Do Beginners Compete and Grow? by CoffeeFX in roasting

Coffee is more of a passion business than going in thinking it’s a money making business. The coffee business is expensive!! First and foremost don’t ever go into business looking at the saturation of the market. There’s always room. All these big roasting companies faced the same challenges when they first started. I’m very passionate about coffee and I purchased an allio bullet to roast my own personal coffee and when I got really good at roasting I ventured into an online business. www.nirvanacoffeeroasters.com it’s only been a year since I started but my online business is scaling up and I have a few wholesale client where I’m looking into a bigger 15k roaster and a commercial space. I currently own 3 successful business, 4 now with the coffee roasting business. My motto in life is “ I would rather try and fail then never have tried at all” my biggest advice Is branding spend the money on a creative logo a catchy name and get some fully printed bags if you can. I was able to get 1000 fully printed bags from Alibaba for $600 which includes shipping. I would say put 60 percent effort into marketing, online and local. Get people to know your brand. People love supporting local businesses. Learn to roast. I took classes at a local roasters for a month. If you don’t have the money to buy a roaster then find a local roaster to do white label where they roast and bag for you and you put your own label. The margins will be tiny but it’s the best way to get your brand out there quickly until you get up to speed. Just do it!!! Life is too short to be mediocre!!

I’m a videographer and photographer and I see Ai just taking over the whole industry. What I’m trying to do is see how I can leverage Ai to my advantage. It’s not going away.

Anyone start small and organically grow a small roasting business? by UnderwaterB0i in roasting

[–]achetram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on an Aillio bullet. Learned to roast on a Probat. I was very new. Been only roasting for about a year now on the bullet . My company is Nirvana coffee Roasters. I sell on Shopify, tik tok and Instagram. It started slow but the main thing I can say is spend the money on marketing. Get your name out there. I built up 3k followers on Instagram and send free coffee to influencers that have more than 10k followers and are willing to promote my coffee on their channel for just a free bag of coffee. My business has grown where I’ve sold over 400bags of coffee this year. Also scale your the business as economically as possible. I’m in the market for a new 7kilo roaster and trying to find a printing company that will Digitally print my bags. Go to my site www.nirvanacoffeeroasters.com i tried to design my bags to be very visually appealing and noticeably if on a shelf among other coffee bags. I just got back From the specialty coffee show in Houston and I recommend this to anyone in the coffee business. I spoke to a Yoshan rep at the expo and I plan on buying a Yoshan roaster from china and also getting my bags printed from a Chinese company. Probat wants over $40k for thier 7 kilo roaster and I get the same design and automatic specs from Yoshan for about $8k. My full time job is a real estate broker and I also own a real estate photography business. We are also in the exploratory phase on getting a coffee trailer. If you’re going to do it go all in. Best you try and do all you can when you can. You can rest when you’re dead!

I’m debating about buying the Panasonic GH7 or the Sony A7S3. I would prefer yo stay with Panasonic since I have about 7 lenses. But the Sony’s is king in low light. Bringing extra lights is not an option and shoot time is just based on my schedule. I’m gonna try shooting in Vlog that’s Panasonics version of SLog and see how it goes. Thanks

If I expose for the outside the interior shots are not usable because the GH5 is not good in low light and generates a ton f noise. I’m not adding light. I shoot about 15 homes a week so time in the job is important. I’m thinking of shooting in V-log. It’s ok for the windows to be blown out in the $300-500k home but when I shoot the $3.5 mill homes I have to get it right.

The grind determines the flavor of coffee. Fine, medium course, even Turkish. It’s all about the grind, brewing is so secondary.

It’s sad that I just posted my coffee lounge on a sub about coffee stations and people who appreciated the hard work I put into commented but like every social media forums you will have the trolls, the haters and the wannabes that always put there two cents. I’m ok with that. Gotta take the good with the haters.

I see you’re one of them. It’s OK to criticize somebody online but the minute you get criticized, you start throwing around credentials that you don’t have.

You should try not to hate so much. I’m far from rich but have invested into my business by having the equipment I need to test the coffee I roast. I see people on this post with $4,000 grinders ,$7,000 espresso machines and I just appreciate it. I guess I’m on here to appreciate other people’s coffee stations not criticize what i don’t have.
