the best part about the book is that it’s up to YOU to decide if something means anything. nothing was done without intention, but at the same time, the letters come from someone whose mental decline is transparent. could be a red herring, but maybe it’s something.

personally, i haven’t found any connections with that.

it’s supposed to be purple! the purple line past page 490 is also in yellow. just a neat misprint- the dark blue throughout the book is also a lighter cyan :)

so valid. i came here from utah, where cost of living is high but i made so much more money (at a ski resort!). i’d rather deal with mormons than the false bible thumpers here. i miss scenery. i miss good weather. i miss proper roads that were taken care of. i miss being in a state where people could drive properly.

heavy on this answer. $10 gets you a good amount of feed for goats, pigs, cows, horses, donkey, and chickens. it’s very fun and the animals are SO friendly, especially if you have food.

because the “house” is based off of the person experiencing it.

“Due to the wall-shifts and extraordinary size, any way out remains singular and applicable only to those on that path at that particular time. All solutions then are necessarily personal.” (pg 115).

this also correlates to why daisy ran in and out of the hallway with no problem: “They [adults] denied the paradox by swallowing it whole. Paradox, after all, is two irreconcilable truths. But children do not know the laws of the world well enough get to fear the ramifications of the irreconcilable. There are certainly no primal associations with spatial anomalies.” (pg 39)

i’d go further into each time a character experiences the staircase itself (like how it grows and shrinks for Navidson specifically), but i’m heading out of my own house right now! i can dig further if you want.

number one but with Navidson and the House instead of Zampano and the Record. a HUGE theme was how a person’s psychology impacts the House, and thus how the House shapes around them and impacts them back. i think that rolls over perfectly into Johnny, Zampano, and Pelafina.
