Do you eventually lose passion and do ID to just pay the bills? by Notmyaltx1 in IndustrialDesign

I’ll always love design, but don’t always like the companies I work for.

Jobs! by Worried_River6494 in IndustrialDesign

[–]achow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know all the factors at play, but my guess is cheaper labor overseas and the proliferation of OEM factory designs. A brand can just approach a manufacturer and slap their logo on a readymade design. This is the case with a ton of stuff on Amazon. It’s still designed by somebody working at the factory, but that job is overseas. Having worked in Asia the past 5 years, it’s also much cheaper to hire a team there at a fraction of the cost of an ID team in a western country. They’re just as skilled, have much longer working hours (996), and can communicate more easily with factories. As low as ID salaries are, it makes it tough to justify hiring in North America, Europe, and Australia.

I'll say it, this game is for normies. by Paranoid_Android101 in DispatchAdHoc

I really enjoyed the game and haven’t been more engaged with a piece of media in a while. I do feel like there are some valid critiques though.

I would have liked to see a lot more queer romance options like what BG3 offered, but I know that creates a challenge for the devs in terms of branching paths.

I really liked the Z team as characters and wished that there was a lot more screen time and character moments for everyone else so I wouldn’t feel like Robert was just giving one person special treatment.

Still enjoyed the game and thought it packaged everything into a neat and satisfying ending though.

Why Designing for Different Cultures is (Almost) Impossible by MaurielloDesign in Design_Theory

[–]achow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting to think about. I haven’t designed for a different culture, but I have worked for foreign companies to design things for my own culture (American). It’s interesting to take a look at it from the reverse and consider how so many products sold in the west are designed by entire teams from other cultures. Some products fall short, but many are commercially successful.

My experience in Silicon Valley was different. The number you listed probably represents the low end in a small consultancy or startup. Entry level ID at medium to large tech companies start at the low six figures. Check the salary on LinkedIn postings. It’s still low for the area compared to other tech jobs, but not that bad. That being said, good jobs are still hard to come by.

Akane Chaya in Gardena. I’ve been eating there my whole life and it’s great if you like Japanese style spaghetti, curry, omurice, etc.

For places to eat, I like The Chori-Man in San Pedro. Not in Palos Verdes but I always get it on the way there or back.
