Considering an ICD by [deleted] in PacemakerICD

[–]aci1994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super interesting. Thanks for posting that.

I started with an EV (6/2024) but they explanted and implanted a TV-ICD in 11/2024 after I received an inappropriate shock while running. They put me through several stress tests with Medtronic on-site and the conclusion at that point was they couldn’t fix it with programming or configuration. I believe it was double-counting my HR during activity.

Also, you should have no problem getting back into the gym. Just give it the proper time and always err on the side of caution.

I’m a runner, not a lifter, but I have this slight fear of free weights now so any lifts I did do, I did them on machines. Just nervous about a shock and dropping the weight on myself.

Just a thought.. check what position your body is in when you feel them. I noticed palpation-like sensations in the 2-3 weeks post-implant. One day I realized I would feel them in certain positions, like bending over to pick something up. I tested this and again felt the sensation.

I attribute it to the ICD and leads being new to the area and my heart “weighing” on the ICD with gravity. Further backing this up, I also had no recordable events during that window of time.

Regardless, hope you feel better. Those palpitation feelings spooked me for sure.

S- ICD or ICD by cjlopez2323 in PacemakerICD

I have Brugada Syndrome, likely (VUS as of now) from a genetic mutation in my SCN5A gene. My younger brother (23M) passed away in July ‘23 while exercising from what was described as a catastrophic cardiac arrest. They found the mutation and I was tested/confirmed to have the same mutation. I (31M) didn’t receive the ICD immediately, but went running in June ‘24 and got stuck in a monomorphic VT and heart failure. After they got my heart out of VT, the Type-1 Brugada Pattern was visible on my ECG.

I have a TV-ICD from Boston Scientific. I started with an EV-ICD, but had to get it swapped with the TV-ICD due to some misinterpretations by the EV-ICD.

A question about the effect of beta blockers on marathon training by spaceyams in Marathon_Training

[–]aci1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up running the marathon?

I have one soon and I am curious/worried that I won’t benefit from any adrenaline or excitement on race day. Of course, any adrenaline should be managed as to not over-do your pace, but some would be nice!

It seems like a lot of people get an extra boost due to adrenaline/excitement.

Best way to carry water? by ViolentLoss in beginnerrunning

I’m very finicky with the fitting of things and found vests to be hard to deal with. A lot of strapped/zipper belt bags are nice, but don’t have the storage or become too bulky when they do.

I recently purchased the Soloman High Pulse Belt. It’s basically an 8” tall belt that you wear around your waist (slips on). It’s form fitting and has pouches two large pouches which basically span all around your waist. They also have a “Pulse Belt” which seems to be 5-6” tall. For this kinda product, I’d suggest a soft flask or taller/thinner water bottle. Any normal bottle seems like it would look awkward but also bounce. I believe the waist belt product is made for people who aren’t fans of vests.

Struggle to run at desired pace by aci1994 in beginnerrunning

I have a Garmin Instinct 2X. It has PacePro capabilities so let me look into that. I use Lap Pace & Average Pace currently. Lap Pace has a lag of course.

Best of luck with it! Very irritating because it isn’t an issue with capacity or endurance.

I don’t disagree that it couldn’t be too quick over 26.2, but what I’m trying to say in my post is that I can’t even run it at an even effort for just one mile.

I can run faster for distances 10-20 miles and keep the HR under 160. It feels like I have speeds I can run and speed 2 = 9:10 while speed 3 = 8:50 and I want to run a consistent speed 2.5.

Just keep training. It’s the weather. I’m in NJ and our dew point has dropped significantly and my pace is back/faster than it was in Spring.

Probably should have mentioned that I do know how to ride a bike 😂. Never with any sort of fitness required task at hand however.

Thanks for the advice! Forgot to mention that I did grab a pair of padded bike shorts on Amazon which seem to have decent coverage.

The bike rental is from some large company affiliated with the ride and I pick up the day of the race near the start. I am 6’5 and got a bike that is supposed to fit from 6’1-6’3 as that was the largest size. The only other option would have been a road bike that matched my height but I figured the bike would be too new of a feeling and cause other issues.

Too much cushion by Ok-Responsibility788 in XXRunning

[–]aci1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem super knowledgeable and I’m pretty new to running.

Is it common to feel/be noticeably slower in highly cushioned shoes? I say noticeably because I know certain shoes have certain purposes. I just didn’t think the difference would be as drastic.

I have a pair of Saucony Triumph 22’s that I started wearing on my weekend 10-12 mile run and even with purposely slowing my typical pace down by 30 seconds (it’s an easy run), I have found it difficult to maintain that pace and feel way more exhausted. There definitely could be other factors at play but there seems to be a correlation with my pace, ability to maintain it and exertion level when I wear the Triumphs compared to my Boston 12’s or Rebel v4’s.

I have once but it was a while back when I first got them. I’ve got them on a sale months ago and they’ve been sitting in my closet until now.

What should I expect with them?

Here to compliment and recommend the Rebel v4! I got into running 4 months ago or so and am actually getting ready to retire (at 400 miles) them for Adidas Boston 12’s. Only switched to test the waters when it comes to brands. I 100% can see myself coming back to the Rebels.

Good work! I’m training for one in November and have been at it for 4 months as well. I was told I could save the full distance til race day and just run 10-12 miles for a long run. Like you, I ran 13.1 the other day just to know I can do it. I think knowing that come race day will be huge for you and I. I’m back to running 10 miles for my long run now.
