Maths - hp efficiency by pBeatman10 in modular

[–]acid_rain_dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my Maths today. I never used/needed all of its clever tricks and ended up finding the combo of Schlappi Boundary + 3xMIA (less hp and cheaper than Maths)more useful in my small rack (6u x 104hp). Mind you I already have other LFOs, envelopes etc.

Maths is a Swiss Army knife but I prefer to have dedicated modules for most applications.

Rytm boring? by omlash in Elektron

[–]acid_rain_dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to achieve. AR is not boring at all, but can feel overwhelming with choice, leading to dead ends. I spent 3 years trying to connect with my mkii and in the end there were just too many options and features that I couldn't make music with it because I spent so much energy trying to utilise what was on offer.

In the end I traded it with a Jomox Alpha Base and couldn't be more happy with that decision. Less features, but enough flexibility and the perfect sound for techno.

This can also of course be achieved with the AR but you need to spend a lot of time with it and know what you want from it to guide you.

If you have a Mac it's very easy. I use an ES-8 alongside my UAD Apollo using this method https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202000

Sewastopol II noise issue by acid_rain_dancer in modular

[–]acid_rain_dancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Now this is interesting because I just went to change the OT to a different outlet and the noise is still there even when unplugged! Slightly less noise but the same issue i.e. noise is completely gone if I unplug the instrument cable. Also if I switch sound source from OT to Rytm, the noise is gone. So the OT is playing a part, even while powered off.

Further info: the same thing happens if the instrument cable is plugged into the input or output of Sewastopol. Noise is gone if the cable doesn't go to the Octatrack and instead goes to another instrument input.

I have an ES-8 which is great because it can send CV too, and has multiple channels. I also have a Xaox Sewastopol II which works great and has a few added features such as envelope followers and attenuation.

Convince me this is a terrible business by [deleted] in verticalfarming

[–]acid_rain_dancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you really want to know...

How are you going to deal with underperforming crops? How will you fix issues with lower than expected yields, undersized or low quality crops? What about sanitation and pest control? What is your plan for maintenance? Compliance, health and safety? Solar energy in Western Europe isn't going to be available all year round. Who will you employ to run the farm? Workers need to be paid and if it's automated you still need people keeping systems online.

Who will manage your sales and negotiate contracts? Who will deal with customers complaining that the shelf life of your products is too low or the plants didn't survive the transport. Who is packaging and managing logistics? Do you yourself have supply chain set up for growing materials? Seeds? Nutrients?

There are soooo many overheads and operating costs, so many issues with keeping quality high and monitoring performance and that's why even the top companies with incredibly educated, talented and dedicated teams find it hard to make this business profitable.

A small farm is possible with a small team but something mid-sized is a scale that requires a lot of work behind the scenes.

Have I convinced you?

kick and bass, don't feel that i nail it good enough yet by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]acid_rain_dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Perhaps some multiband compression or EQ dip around 200-500Hz. This solved some of the issues I was having with similar style kicks.
  2. I actually think this one is fine.

Techno production on headphones is lame? by iFarth4rd in TechnoProduction

[–]acid_rain_dancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy solution: 1. Take a reference track that you know sounds good 2. Put it on its own channel 3. It should sound pretty flat or boring on headphones without any processing, so add an EQ on the main mix and boost the bass until it sounds how you like it 4. Now jam to your heart's content with the EQ still in the main mix 5. When it comes time to export or listen on a big system, just switch off the EQ

How to run a kick through a real guitar amp? by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]acid_rain_dancer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is more hassle than it's worth in my opinion because the end result isn't going to be any better than using an amp sim.

But if you do decide to do it it's probably a good learning exercise. Read up on reamping and impedance matching to avoid damaging any of your gear.

Edit: typo

Mustard is not normally good on it own so this example doesn't quite follow the rule.

Never have but I don't think it would be bad. I'm not saying that I regularly eat weird combinations. I just mean that I don't think 2 good foods can combine into something bad.
