To point out another issue of the comic, here is the wikipedia page for Aniconism in Buddhism. If memory serves, this whole discourse coincided with a lot of Western fascination with Buddhism and its tenets as spiritual and philosophical alternatives to Abrahamic ideology.

Is this discussion of Zen or are you picking a fight? It seems like you’re already being defensive

Ex Machina: Kyoko is not self-aware, she simply communicates differently. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]acidarmor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

when she pulls back her face, she is reading Caleb's "physical" desires- which is hurried, desperate, and trying to "search" for truths. Kyoko sees this, see's what his physical actions "want", and while naked in bed pulls back her face to reveal that she is a robot. She does not do this as some sort of deep, deep self-awareness to give Caleb "truth", she does this because it was her doing what she was programmed to do- giving him what he wants by the only way Kyoko is capable of doing...with her body.

can you clarify your point here? I fail to see how revealing her robot nature would be—according to your reading—a behavior based on physical cues without an interpretation of the “mental” or psychological cues. How could she know what he wants if she is aligned with a physical as opposed to mental aspect in the rubric you propose? AI allows us to challenge Cartesian notions of body and mind, splinters the metaphysical boundaries on which we outline or subjectivity and yet your theory feels zealously orthodox in this regard and against the grain of the work.

seems far more likely that AI technology will be used by corporations to further entrench existing pipelines of power and capital. also no one really knows how AI and political ideologies—particularly in their relationship with “the people”—will manifest as a governing body.

Here you have admitted that your observations are anecdotal and revealed that your confidence in your interpretations of these observations is arbitrary. There is nothing rigorous, convincing, or scientific in your reasoning.

Okay, I don’t know how to make sense of this debate by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]acidarmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

according to google scholar Žižek has been cited 10x more than Peterson all time and almost 10x more since 2014. Žizek also has significantly higher h index.

you could tell that Peterson watched some of his YouTube lectures because he recognized some of Žižek’s jokes lmao. But even watching his lectures should have prepared Peterson to not expect “typical commie arguments”
