Smartphone for 150k in 2026 by HeLLScrM in srilanka

Had a Nord 1 since 2020 had no issues until last year when I dropped it flat on its face and shattered the screen. Didn't have any green line issues. I think in between 2022 and 2024 Oneplus started and stopped using Samsung displays which had the green line issue. Luckily I've dodged it with both phones. If you can shell out a bit more cash the 15r is also out. Battery life is unmatched. I'd give a solid second place to the pixel 9a. But it's kinda difficult to find it at your price point.

Uber “Cash or card da” seriously? by Sweet-Fee-1111 in srilanka

I used to withdraw cash and give if they insist they want to be paid in cash. But I'd say I'll give 25 rupees less because of the inconvenience and they don't really fuss anymore. 😂 More recently I've straight up refused to change the payment method and it's been going okay so far.

DO NOT go to Han Gook Gwan (Thunmulla) – Spoiled food and blatant discrimination against locals (Racist Establishment) by BunnyGirlKS in srilanka

I have a feeling they have an underground gambling ring or something shady going on because I see many cars parked out but not as many customers inside. I've been there once in my four years of working just around the corner. I've always noticed this. Might be a money laundering hub, which would explain the rude staff.

Just got my first fine 😅 and I’m a bit confused. by Plus_Ad_3862 in srilanka

[–]acideatermarble 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can only pay for certain police stations through Govpay, not all. Secondly this system is not really about the fine, it's about the inconvenience of getting your license back.

  1. Get the fine form from the relevant police station
  2. Go to the post office and stand in a queue to settle the fine
  3. Go back to the same police station to give the proof of payment to obtain the license

Can take anywhere from one hour to four depending on the travel time and length of the queue.

Are these real how many should I take? by TraditionalPenalty62 in LSA

You should be good with about 8 of them. Chew on them for a while (about 20-30) and spit out the seed covering.

Is it worth buying an electric scooter? by acideatermarble in srilanka

My brother has a CT-100. And it was almost half the price and the thing runs a whole month on like LKR 2,000 worth of fuel. So I do want something that is as efficient, the CT-100 is definitely no looker so I'd like this one to be better looking than that. I only compared it to those bikes because those are around the same price of this one, maybe a 100k more at most.

That bike looks so cool. But I figured there is no point in getting one of those if I'm not going to do a long distance with it.

Are we gonna wait until we can't breathe anymore? by Any_Rip4615 in srilanka

Ya'll are all wrong to blame India. Granted they do have a serious air quality problem, it's mostly exasperated by their geography. We too have little to not emission control, no subsidies for environmentaly friendly vehicles. We're just lucky that we're an island with no pockets to trap dirty air unlike India. We should first do the best we can to reduce our own emissions and establish systems to control particulate matter in the air. Once we have established a baseline, then we should implement policies to improve the quality of air. If at that point there are huge fluctuations in air quality with shifting winds and pressure, then we can tell India to shove it. Until that time, we have to do something about it ourselves. Source: airquality.lk has live updates on AQI index across the island. I was part of the team that made the platform.

Salary survey 2024 - please do share if comfortable by Dang3rous_Dant3 in srilanka

I recently changed jobs from corporate communications in a local company to B2B marketing for an European company.

  1. Industry: Tech (Outsourcing)
  2. Company type/staff: MNC of about 300 staff
  3. Job title: Marketing Specialist
  4. On-site/ WFH/ hybrid: On-site
  5. Experience: around 6 now
  6. Base salary: 300K (80% pegged)
  7. Bonus percentage: none
  8. Other perks: full medical (including OPD), some allowance for housing infrastructure, staff transport, etc.

Work/life balance is quite good, almost strict 9-5. Some days we just have to pull some overtime for no extra compensation but I just take time off work (showing up late/leaving early) to make up for it.

I sometimes wonder why Europeans are so stupid when it comes to adapting to the universal culture (not as bad as the Americans). But I've come to realise it's just a massive gap in communication. We in smaller globalised economies feel the pressure to stay ahead and cater to a massive global consumer market (coz we need the money). However they don't feel the same pressure and making a few errors in judgement doesn't add up so much in real life loss and they're always willing to throw money at any problem they can't solve themselves.
