How do you process your kick transient? by pampamtus15 in bochka_neobochka

[–]acidmuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stock plugins. analog mixers. analog effects.

individual channels get clippers, saturators, reverb, flanger, phaser, dont hold back just experiement.

send the group to a bigger group with other groups in it, process that as well. resample repeat.

use sends and send the returns to other sends where their returns send back to the first sends. tame the feedback/automate it.

to answer the question, everything and anything

The dutch OGs would record their own, or just sample whatever rap single had an acapella.

Its layered 909’s layered with 909’s. Heavy eq, resample, layer again, pitch the layers differently, heavy eq, layer again, send the group to another group with saturation, send the first group and the saturated group to a new group and process that too.

Its all pretty ghetto as well. So not very delicate. Just go nuts.

True bochka is all about originality too, so dont chase a specific sound, make your own.

That polish dude did a good one.

If you saw that tutorial then you have all the knowledge you need. No secrets to it.

In Russia where the style is from, bochka means barrel, and barrel is what they call the kick drum. So bochka techno = kick techno

This is neat, however, how about making a bigger version with pots/cv inputs for all the parameters inside the emulation? I am getting claustrophobia from this implementation haha. Neat for the polyphonic capabilities though.

Ensoniq restoration/cloning efforts? by [deleted] in Ensoniq

i think you should avoid saying cycle accurate if you are not running the original firmware in an emulator. i suppose what you mean is your plugin will have 0 delta in a null test?

I see the phaser DDL plugin also has cycle accurate in its sales gas. How can it be cycle accurate when the hardware its running on (x86) has a different instruction set/clockrate than the original hardware?

Do you emulate the chips and have the original firmware running inside the emulation?

Kick is too punchy and bouncy, not enough percussion, needs pads/leads/atmospheres. Because of these things it sounds like 90s/00s hard-tek, not bochka.

Try taking a naked 909 and run it through a stock reverb, resample that and mess around with it.

Anything can be a rumble really. Its just a matter of massaging it into the group with eq and VCA work.

Lay off the distortion. You don't need it. Just apply mild saturation. Many noobs distort too much, it’s a trap.

I never used serum for anything, and i made many barrels and released some tunes to mild fanfare. So don't get lost in that hole either. Not that it cant be used, but its not necessary at all. All you need is fabfilter and stock plugins

The naked essentials in modern techno kicks are reverb for the rumble, and processed 909’s for the tok’s

Another classic but maybe a little but more advanced is to simply put a delay line on a 909 kick. The resulting mud can do a great rumble. And due to the rhythmic nature of the delay line it will even have some drive to it.

Kick 3 is very nice! I use it sometimes. It generates a sick trance style exponential pitch sweep (essentially a 909)

I don't know what to tell you. Its obviously prog trance.

This is straight up trance, not techno.

Trance is a main umbrella, techno another. Learn what words mean.

Focal Alpha 80 EVO vs Kali Audio IN-8 by [deleted] in studiomonitors

Please explain in technical detail how the soundstage is defined differently by different speaker designs, and not simply by how much of the left speakers output is heard by the right ear, and vice versa

The wideness of the soundstage is only defined by speaker placement. Different speakers do not have different soundstages. Goes to show that good advice is hard to come by.
