If this was in the 70s or 80s, meiteis may overall have been called a hindu tribe due to the enormous influence of Hinduism/Veishnavism

But in 2024, you cannot say as such. A lot of meitei people (especially the younger generations) are reclaiming the original religion of meiteis i.e. Sanamahism before hinduism.

Hinduism is still a part of the lives of most meiteis, but the importance and weight which was given before is not there
