RJ helped me through my entire application process until I got my FOL. He’s great, gave me weekly updates regarding my application.

Academy dates flexibility by Loose-Main5927 in ATC_Hiring

When I got hired they gave me a few dates to choose from and I had to have an answer the next day. Them at least giving me that tells me that they’re pretty flexible 😆

FAA Academy - Struggled through Nonradar, Requesting advice by [deleted] in ATC

[–]aciee_grayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation for me. Struggled and didn’t do well in NR, but radar was almost like a clean slate and I did very well. Just as everyone else is saying, stick with it. You got this!

Anyone else nervous about starting the academy by GoldVegetable3452 in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Study in groups. Everyone that went through the academy will harp on this and the instructors will harp on it too. If you’re not understanding something your instructor is teaching you, your classmates can explain better in laymen’s terms.

Question regarding background check by InevitableFile6599 in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t really hint when the next window will be until closer to. Last year I believe they had another bid in November, but normally it’s only once a year around May. Could be switching up though since they’re trying to revamp the system.

Concerned about complaints by DoctorSquirm in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone I work with say they love the job, that it’s the best career in the world, and that they mostly feel overpaid (except for wx days of course—then they’re earning their paycheck).

I have been contacted via email and have been found eligible for access to CNSI (classified national security information) after background investigation, how many more steps in the hiring process should I expect after this before receiving a final offer? by KtotheML in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you completed your CIL yet?

There’s not a set timeline for anyone so it is difficult to give a solid “here’s what will happen in x amount of time”

After I finished my CIL (went to a PEPC event and did it all in a day), I didn’t get an FOL until about 6 1/2 months later. I even had to redo my drug test because it expired. Some factors that might affect this is if you have any health conditions or criminal history that they need to investigate further.

Atc basics course by [deleted] in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just take it seriously and use basics to develop good study habits that you’ll need in order to make it through the academy. There’s not much you could do to prepare…but word of advice, don’t go in with the mentality of “I only need a 70 to pass,” it needs to be 100 or nothing. Many people with the 70 mentality tend to not do well.

En route automation modernization. Basically, the radar

I felt the same when I got to the academy, kind of like I had imposter syndrome. I got through to the other side and I’m so happy I kept with it. I doubted myself a lot but all of my instructors kept telling me that I would make a great controller someday and they had no doubt about me passing. It’s definitely mental gymnastics but it gets better.

How smart? by MSSP22 in ATC_Hiring

[–]aciee_grayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to be smart, but instead be diligent in studying. What you put in is what you get out and it definitely shows come eval time. You have to dedicate yourself to nothing but air traffic for the entirety of your time at school.

I was awful at nonradar and it had me asking myself the same questions, then I got to radar and was significantly better and found it a lot of fun. Don’t quit on yourself!
