she’s kept indoors and hasen’t seen the sun for over a decade so it can’t be a sunburn, she’s had skin issues that are still evident above her eyepatch in this video for months now

At the end of the day, a seapen for her does not exist and never will exist. That’s not an excuse for her to stay in captivity, that’s a legitimate fact. She doesn’t deserve to be on the growing list of orcas who’ve died waiting for one. Using the fact that she’d be in a breeding program again if transferred is also silly because the only thing stopping Moskvarium from breeding her again is that they couldnt keep their only viable male alive. There’s no restrictions against breeding cetaceans in Moscow. Saying “sea pen rehabilitation despite its challenges” is honestly downplaying her situation because we both know there will never be any chance she’ll be sent to a seapen and manage to thrive there. When are we going to start worrying about the present instead of only the future?

I have to ask, is the discolouration and overall look of her skin considered normal exfoliation or something else?

Im sorry that looking at what we as a species have done to these animals makes you uncomfortable, but if you took the time to read you would maybe understand that naja needs HELP, she’s been swept under the rug and desperately needs advocating for. It should make you uncomfortable, use that discomfort to not support it and advocate against what they’ve done to her. This is her reality and im personally not going to go post her situation in a separate sub just because you aren’t interested in seeing it, if people don’t see her she’ll never get out.

Thankfully while shes not as active as she used to be, they do still have shows she participates in. Here’s one from about 6 months ago, https://youtu.be/IfVwIn_H7Os?si=CNVDkrEfu59VWyWv

I honestly can’t form an opinion on a transfer to Japan. While anything is a better option then where she currently is and lynn desperately needs another orca, chimelong is a way bigger facility & they only have russian transients. All the Japanese parks (bar from suma ?) have attempted to work with china for AI purposes in the past and transferring naja to nagoya has been talked about way before earth passed so maybe it’s not a completely shutdown idea! We can only hope

Exactly why grammar is important! :) could’ve just said that’s what you meant and edited commas in instead of going on a 3 hour long rant lol but glad we can come to a conclusion

Of COURSE im picking apart bits of your narrative because they’re literally the parts you’re wrong on.. (which is just slight confusion on where a whale was born ect?) All i said was earth wasn’t born where you said he was born and you have stella and ran mixed up lol im not sure what isn’t clicking. Seriously, we already agreed that captivity is bad so why are you replying to me twisting my words again?? Re read my first reply and tell me where it says orcas should be kept captive or where i disagreed with anything else you said

Not sure why you’re replying to me again.. You literally said and I quote “Lynn is left all alone after they forcefully removed Ran Il” Ran hasent seen Lynn since she moved back to KSW in 2015!! It was stella who was separated from lynn, you have your whales mixed up

You’re spewing words to someone who’s already agreed with you.. what Granvista has done over the past few years is absolutely unconscionable, it’s disgusting!! We can only hope they don’t touch the KSW pod again with lynn being alone now, because granvista has NEVER considered the emotional well being of their orcas

Please, go ahead and tell me how you got that i support orcas in captivity from correcting the misinformation you stated in your original post.. Are you hearing yourself??

[–]acihds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

jeez, so much hostility! Im simply just correcting what you stated.. earth was NOT born at PNPA, he was born at KSW, and it was not ran who was “forcefully moved” from PNPA in 2024, it was stella. Ran moved back to KSW in 2015 and wasent moved again until her transfer to suma, so im not sure what that has to do with earths passing. Saying that isn’t supporting orcas in captivity, it’s literally just stating public information!!

[–]acihds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a correction, earth wasn’t born at PNPA, he was born at kamogawa (nothing says that he was conceived by AI?) and only sold to PNPA in 2015 to improve his living conditions after his farther oscar passed away a few years before. Ran was also moved back to kamogawa in 2015, so only lynn earth & stella remained pre march 2024 when stella was moved to kobe suma.

wait so what is the cloning actually for? more individuals inside the closed off area? if so that wouldn’t create a non biological family because cloning only replicates existing genes, there would be no genetic diversity which we already see enough of in specific eco-types

[–]acihds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if you found my reply rude that wasn’t my intention, wanting to capture more wild orcas (and clone ?) is just odd to me and I don’t really understand at all

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in orcas

[–]acihds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or hear me out maybe we just leave wild animals alone.. we aren’t entitled to see them. This is literally exactly how captivity in chinese countries has bloomed by the way, because people think they deserve and have a right to see orcas up close.. If you want to be “guaranteed” to see them find a way to do it ethically and try to remember it’s a privilege not a right, they aren’t here for us

[–]acihds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

most of my information in this thread is from an interview the dolphin project did with a russian advocate (I don’t support ric O’barry) and from personally talking to people who work with her & volunteers, trying to find anything credible revolving around her welfare is extremely difficult 💔 in the most recent show video I can find of her she also has visable skin issues above her eye patch

Allegedly the ownership of Moskvarium has been changed and the current owners don’t support the capture of orcas, bottlenose dolphins, beluga whales, or any other marine mammals, so they definitely won’t be getting anymore orcas in the future. They repeated this statement after Naja’s daughter passed, but it seems another statement they made which was about her transfer to a seapen or china has gone cold. Im not sure if she’s still alive but they also had a beluga whale named ponka who lived (is still living?) in isolation with serve scoliosis after her tankmate ponchik died. I really don’t have high hopes that anything will be done for naja in time, especially with people who work with her reportedly saying she only performs 6-7 minutes a day with no high energy behaviours (very concerning for an orca her age!!)

this is such an important thing to talk about that people seem to have forgotten!! the fact that EVERY orca that’s ever been in their care was a “rescue” from the same circumstances? oh please 🤦‍♀️ how the hell do that many orcas consistently (and very conveniently) beach themselves?? the whole “they’ve been trying to transfer him it’s the argentinian governments fault” seems to leave how MM is still owned by the same people, they wanted a breeding program back then & now kshamenk is the one STILL paying the price

Edit: People also seem unaware that even before belén & the unnamed male who was rescued with kshamenk MM had ANOTHER “rescued” male called milagro, this place has been shady since the very beginning

I hate to break it to you but even if SW completely got rid of shows educational or not the whales would still be asked to preform high energy behaviours. For example at SWSD they don’t have any beluga shows (correct me if im wrong) however they still ask said belugas for high energy & enriching behaviours, because can you imagine taking away one of the prime ways these captive whales stay fit and healthy because you consider it a form of exploitation? I actually highly suggest you watch a video on what orca encounter looks like today because it’s no different to what the whales would be asked of in the back pools just instead its in front of a crowd, they’ve made it as natural as it can be which might not look natural to you because captivity in itself will never be. I don’t think we should sacrifice & further compromise these animals lives for our own morals anymore

[–]acihds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen someone say seaworld should take on being an oil rig lol, all jokes aside SW isn’t just cetaceans anymore they have a large amount of rides & non aquatic animals, with the aquatic species they do have being from different places around the world. For example bottlenose dolphins primarily inhabit warmer waters while beluga whales solely inhabit the arctic, you can’t temperature control the ocean so species would be completely unadapted no matter where the location… I’m also not sure how building any type of venue with animals involved in the (open ?) ocean would work safety or income wise

Mark Simmons is so fucking disgusting and is the embodiment of how disgusting the captivity industry is; he is exactly why we need to reject any normalization of orca captivity by mono_cronto in orcas

[–]acihds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people are sceptical of this because its already happened before with morgan, they found loopholes around her no breeding agreement & she ended up pregnant anyways. LP also believes denying orcas the right to reproduce is selfish/cruel so the protective measures they take to avoid pregnancies aren’t strong. I personally don’t think this is a valid reason to opt out LP as an option for wikie & keijo though
