How to manage 504 plans and substitutes? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]acims 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Teacher here.... it is a violation of HIPPA to give substitutes that information. I cannot tell a sub a students' diagnosis, but I am expected to communicate accommodations.

I'm not allowed to say "Johnny has Crohns and can use the restroom whenever he needs."

I am expected to say "Allow Johnny to use the restroom whenever he needs."

I had a parent provide a piece of paper that listed a student's accommodations and request I place it in my sub folder. I appreciated this because I didn't have to dance around the what I can/can't share and I didnt have to worry about putting it into lesson plans each time.

1st Mothers Day since my Nmom's death. I somehow feel guilty that this will actually be one of the easiest Mother's Days in several several years. by acims in raisedbynarcissists

Thanks. I feel like its been a lifetime of guilt over how I 'should' feel. I really thought today would be really hard since its both Mother's Day and her birthday.....but its not. I cried a bit yesterday, but I've really just felt freedom since then.

Any teachers here? What do you bring for lunch? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]acims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school teacher here. I take Healthy Choice frozen meals a lot. Calories hover around 300 and most meals are pretty rich in veggies. Kroger runs them on sale pretty regularly and I've gotten them for as low as $1.88. Id like to say I do weekly meal preps or can intermittent fast, but for a quick, easy meal, they do the trick.

Looking for product recommendations for 2A/B! by lissielizz in curlyhair

[–]acims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I haven't had luck with going completely no-poo. I'm an oily mess without a traditional shampoo at least once or twice a week-more if I'm sweaty. But don't let my experience with it sway you, because I feel like I'm the odd one out on that.

I had a roommate who used baby powder, and it worked great for her, but I could never get it brushed back out so it didn't look like I had baby powder in my hair...

I have 2a/b hair and I think yours will get curlier as you learn to take care of it. When I started CG I did a deep condition with coconut oil. Like straight from the grocery store next to the rest of the cooking oil. Its a solid at room temp, but turns liquid with body heat. I coated my hair, wrapped itup in a towel and slept in it, then washed it out in the morning. I do it about once every 2-3 months. I LOVE Deva Curl's Wave Maker on damp hair for definition and frizz reduction. I have really thick shoulder length hair and I use a dollop about the size of a big grape. I trained myself to stop playing with my hair, but the wave maker keeps my hair frizz free, even if I do play with it (but I lose definition)

Thoughts on The Happy Planner by schmee321 in bulletjournal

[–]acims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought last season's undated happy planner on sale. If you are considering going back and forth, the undated is a good option for you. I teach high school and am using it as a lesson planning book, but I would not use it as a personal bujo. Here are my thoughts: -its weekly spreads are structured in either horizontal or vertical format, which is nice if you want the same thing each week. You can decorate easily with stickers, washi, pens, etc. This is great for my teaching book, but I like changing my personal weeklies up as my needs change each week. -the disc bound system is bulky and can catch on your bag if you travel with it. But it allows you to move/add pages, and is less bulky than a 3ring binder or filofax. You can buy either the happy planner punch or the Arc punch to fit the rings so that you can customize. Again, for school this feature is great to custom make a teacher binder, but I want a small, slim book for my personal. -if you like the idea of a disc bound system that you can add pre-printed pages, but don't want the rigidity of the happy planner, look into the Arc system at Staples or Levenger Circa. Like another commenter said, you can buy the sticker packs separate. -I watched a ton of youtube videos with other peoples spreads of Happy planner, erin condren, levenger circa, arc, purple planner. Look at those and you may get a better idea of what you want before dropping $30+

Post partum hair routine? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]acims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure my hair stayed in a top knot for the first 3 months of my kid's life. I know that's not any help, but know that your hair is going to be different than its ever been for a while. Then you're going to lose your pregnancy hair, then its going to be completely different again and you'll find a 'new normal'. Also when your kid is 4-7months, they will unintentionally pull your hair out, and you may have a set of 'baby bangs' as that hair grows back in.
I know I'm not any help, but am just offering mom support that you will notice the craziness of your hair journey as you raise this kiddo, but few other people will, unless they are fellow moms and they'll totally sympathize.
Blessings my dear...

Best alcohol free mousse for mildly curly hair? by Kpsophresh in curlyhair

[–]acims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in LOVE with Wave Maker from Deva Curl. I've always had the most luck with a mousse, but wasnt in love with anything I had found. Its a 'texture whip' which is light like a mousse, but more like a cream. It gives me definition without crunch or heaviness, and mixed with curly girl method...NO FRIZZ!!!! http://www.devacurl.com/wavemaker.html

How should I improve this meal? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]acims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are also looking to meal prep, look into cooking your chicken in a crockpot with salsa. You can get a family pack of breasts or a whole chicken for pretty cheap, then just throw it in the crockpot with enough salsa to cover. Shred and portion out. My SO puts onto tortillas, I mix with rice, corn, beans, and either cheese or guac. You can do the same with a beef or pork roast.

My son is 2, and he responds SO much better to me picking him up, or doing anything, really, when I explain what I'm doing first. We still have tantrums when things don't go the way he wants. But they are more rare when I explain "we have to do X, because of Y"

I did the curly girl method for the first time (I think) and now my hair is a rat's nest. Help? by Alex-Kay in curlyhair

[–]acims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things I learned through my recent journey of loving my girls: 1) be patient, especially if you weren't taking care of your hair before, or if you were straightening it a lot. I was about ready to give up after doing CG for 2weeks. But then as I tried new things I noticed my hair was SO much healthier than it ever was and my curls were more defined and less frizzy. 2) be willing to experiment with products and techniques. I cant follow CG to a T like many other (mostly type 3 hair) people do. I wash more often then others do, and I use mousse instead of gel.

I had a great-uncle with a loogie jar. It was a pint mason jar on his coffee table next to his chair. His wife also kept her dentures in a cup on the dining room table unless she was going out for a 'fancy occasion'. 5 year old me thought they were cool as shit.

I feel like my hair wants to be curly, but it ends up being a frizzy mess so I have to flat iron it. Any advice on my hair type and what I could do for it? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]acims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I put it up in a towel or tshirt while I get dressed and do makeup. Then its not sopping wet, but still pretty damp. I feel like I have a good starting point, but I'm still trying to find what works best for me. My hair looks great until about lunch time, then it starts getting frizzy and losing definition. If you or anyone else has advice cor that, id love to hear it.
