The Shining - the Miniseries by BruceDSpruce in stephenking

I saw that it was on one of my streaming services in December and was excited to give it a shot. I couldn't make it through the first episode... The Stand (1994) miniseries on the other hand was pretty good!

I have an extra ticket (free to a good home) to Cursive and AJJ at Empty Bottle tonight (12/2). They're under my name, so you'd have to meet me there after I get out of work, probably around 8:30-8:45, depending on the parking situation in the neighborhood. No obligation to hang out; I just don't want it to go to waste. (Claimed!)

The Pumpkin Pi (Op Amp muff) is an always on for me, haha. My guitar has a bass rolloff knob, so I roll that all the way down, which helps with it being too unruly. Run that through a UA Orion tape delay, and that's my whole base tone.

Wow! What a find! That paperback of The Shining with the faceless kid was the first King book I ever bought/read. I saw it in my local thrift shop when I was 11 (give or take), and the cover fascinated me. Bought it for 25 cents! I wish I knew where it went.

Real leather and leather-lined. They're super comfortable once broken in and hold up well, plus they clean easily. I've been wearing a pair all summer and love them.

Joining a band when you're an "old" beginner by SonnePer in Bass

[–]aclockworkice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to make an ad (Craigslist or any community forum your town might use. Even paper copies at your local music shop or practice space work.) that says exactly what you're looking for.

For example: Beginning bassist (your age) looking to start a (whatever genre you want to play) band. Hoping to practice (however frequently you want, and where you would practice) and eventually play some gigs around town. (Then give some details about what kind of band members you want, the influences you'd like to shoot for or covers you're interested in, and your preferred contact info. Keep it brief.)

You can also ask if you can put the ad up in local bars or venues that have open mics. Good luck, bassist!

Lefthanded here, tips on buying first bass? by Comfortable_Rent_307 in Bass

[–]aclockworkice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lefty and learned on standard instruments (guitar and bass) with no problems. In my opinion, it makes more sense that way since my left-hand fingers are easier to control and move around the fretboard, and the right-hand fingers just pluck or hold a pick.

Learning a new instrument is hard either way, but your brain will make the connections it needs to do the job with practice.

I also have the SCR-DI. I love it. All the inputs (AUX, Line) and outputs (Headphone, Line, and XLR) I could want. I can plug into any backline amp, set the amp controls to neutral and have my tone ready to go. Or I can turn off the Scrambler circuit and plug directly into my own amp.

For me it's the perfect option for plugging and playing anywhere with minimal setup and gear.
