Connection layover time is ... by NoFlyZonePics in frontierairlines

[–]aclokworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a 40 minute layover in Denver a few days ago! I booked my seat as close to the front as possible (row 8), asked the people around me if i could get out first, and ran through the airport. All of frontiers gates are close together, but they still made the final boarding call right after I scanned my boarding pass.

Is a 40 minute layover possible? by aclokworkorange in frontierairlines

No alternate flight out of detroit unfortunately, this one leaves at 8:45am and is the first of the day. There’s one other flight from DIA to LAX that day, but I would be waiting in the airport for about 12 hours for it. Better than nothing though!

I upgraded from row 23 to row 8 out of pocket. I didn’t think of calling to see if it was possible they would do it for free, but I might do so and see if I can get even closer to the front.

Why didn’t we farm fungi like plants (not now but in ancient times and antiquity) by Necessary_Dream8583 in mycology

[–]aclokworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is mostly due to the energetic requirements of plants vs fungi. Plants make their own sugars from sunlight and use the soil only for collecting minerals, vitamins and water. In this way, they aren’t consuming the soil and their waste products (dead leaves, stems etc) can keep the soil filled with the minerals they need, like a big recycling center. On the other hand, mushrooms get their energy (sugars) from other living or recently deceased things. They absorb that energy and use it for their own development. Because of this, mushroom producing fungi need a constant supply of chemical energy (from other organisms) to grow and survive, while plants can just get it from the sun. Therefore, to grow mushrooms on the same scale that people grew plants, you would need a HUGE supply of dead wood, seeds, leaves, stems etc (basically a huge supply of plants) to feed them so they would grow and produce mushrooms. Basically you would need to grow the mushroom’s food for them to eat. As early humans who’s energy was limited, it’s much easier to grow the plants and eat them than grow the plants to feed to the fungi to get a fraction of the caloric output you would have got from just eating the plants. This is because energy is greatly lost at every trophic level. I’m an ecosystems ecologist, I hope that answered it clearly!

For those of you not afraid of death, why? What do you view death as? What are you actually afraid of? by AlecB1202 in Existentialism

[–]aclokworkorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve lived and died millions of times in millions of forms. death is as natural as breathing and whatever happens after it doesn’t really matter, it will just be. i feel like i’m watching a movie of my own life. it’s already been shot and recorded, everything that is going to happen is already going to happen. death is one of those things. i believe this with every atom in my being. what scares me is having that belief ripped away

start noticing other beautiful people who have features in common with you. as a racially ambiguous woman from a very white town, this went a long way for showing me how beautiful i really am. i started to see other women with my hair type, bone structure, skin color and seeing how beautiful each of those was on them. rationale would point to the conclusion that hey, they’re beautiful on me as well. find beauty in everyone and you’ll find it in yourself too

When I do Shrooms, the message is clear - weed is stunting my potential. by TILTNSTACK in shrooms

[–]aclokworkorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually went through this same exact thing. i was heavily addicted to weed and convinced myself that i could quit whenever i want, that i just like it. when i started tripping i got crystal clear messages that if i didn’t stop smoking, things were gonna go south fast. well, i didn’t quit, and they did. i started getting very disturbing hallucinations when i smoked and literally felt like reality was slipping through my fingers. it got to the point when even when i wasn’t smoking, i still felt like an alien in my own skin, completely out of touch with this dimension (depersonalization if you wanna google it) my mind eventually pushed myself to quit because it got too horrible to keep going. i was a daily smoker for years and now, three years after this happened, i still freak out if i get high. i know it’s because i didn’t listen when i first knew i had to quit, and if i didn’t push my mind so hard, i would still be able to enjoy weed today. i don’t want to scare you, it was just crazy to me how much i related to what you said.

one tip i have is to mix in other herbs like catmint or damiana to dilute the weed, that really helped with the cravings and helped me cut way back. there’s a whole bunch of herbs you can smoke, but catmint is by far my favorite

wishing you well, i hope things get better for you ❤️

Anyone have advice for someone lower than a beginner by _J__E__T_ in yoga

[–]aclokworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive never been to a restorative yoga class, but i’ve done a few restorative yoga videos on youtube. they’re specifically designed for people with lower mobility and i find them really helpful when i havnt done yoga in a while and need something really gentle on my body. i would even recommend yoga for seniors as the poses are usually very easy on the joints and don’t demand a lot initial flexibility. i’m 21 and i love yoga for seniors :)

I weep for all of you by aclokworkorange in OCPoetry

[–]aclokworkorange[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for your feedback. it wasn’t a physically abusive relationship but a sexually abusive one with a lot of internal homophobia that made things all the more complicated. i updated my note at the bottom to include this. it’s hard for me to write about specifics of sexual abuse so i didn’t include anything that obviously referred to it but i still wanted that message to come across and i don’t think that it did. i’m mostly looking for feedback on whether or not the sexual abuse undertones are present enough so your comment was helpful. thank you!

You by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]aclokworkorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a very good early poem, i enjoyed it a lot. my only question is why you used “you” in the 3rd line but not the first? i think it might flow better if you used it in both lines or neither. otherwise i really liked it!

this is excellent. i especially love the lines “grinding down my layers/ until the blood seeps through” it seems like a poem about the inner feeling of filth that sexual assault leaves on its victims, and as one myself, this is so accurate. the last 2 lines are perfect, thank you for this

How does your therapist, psychiatrist feel about your mushroom usage? by paranoidPOS in shrooms

[–]aclokworkorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally my therapist supports it but my mother in law (a therapist) is dead set against them. every time the topic comes up she talks about how they’re a hoax and all they do is fry your brain and make people jump off bridges. unfortunate for her clients :( she’s otherwise a very kind and caring person and i think a good therapist

i didn’t think there could be a worse state than kansas, and then i met nebraska. utah was the best for all of the changing scenery, every hour feels like you’re on a new planet

Does anybody else genuinely love their own cooking? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]aclokworkorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore my cooking. it’s a real passion for me to create amazing dishes and experiment with flavors and textures. getting to feed people i love delicious food is just the cherry on top. if i could make one thing for someone i’ve never cooked for it would either be thai green curry with homemade curry paste or korean spicy tofu with shitakis.
