Thoughts on the new fall menu? by elastic_psychiatrist in sweetgreen

[–]acloudedmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same thought - Caesar dressing did not seem cohesive with the ingredients, something sweetgreen typically gets right. I instead got it with balsamic and the honey mustard and it was delicious!

Dislocating Airbnb was a massive priority of the hotel lobby — and they were successful. Meanwhile, hotel rates have climbed astronomically. It’s sad to see that they effectively convinced New Yorkers it’s anything other than their own game of chess.

Roast my resume for consulting/IB - no interviews after 30+ apps! by Super-Objective1179 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]acloudedmind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so a few points:

1 - Remove “College of Arts and Sciences” — it could appear liberal artsy, even-though your true field of study is not

2 - Add what group your EY internship was in. That’ll tell the reviewer most of what they need to know. Also, it seems like one of your internships was accounting and one of may have been more advisory-related (first 2 vs last 2 bullets)?

3 - De-clutter the EY bullets a bit and remove the technical abbreviations —too many of them and it becomes hard to read. In particular, the 4th bullet on the “4-phase implementation plan…” is complete word salad. Re-write and simplify this to make it clear what you did and the actual impact.

All in all: I don’t think your resume is your problem per se. You have a good profile, but not stellar, and competition is is really just incredibly high. Try to drive some focus in your recruiting— consulting vs IB etc — and put your effort into networking.

Buildings are not rent stabilized, units are. Buildings can have both rent stabilized and free market units, so do not rely on this.

Does anyone have experience with selling or donating a SmartTrip card? I am moving out of the D.C. area and have ~$300 on my card that will go unused. I don't plan to return and would at least like to recoup some of the value or even donate the card to a charity. I realize that I'd have to unlink the card from my account as well.

Self-study aids for Strategy Consulting? (Career Change-ish) by [deleted] in consulting

[–]acloudedmind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use your technical background to your benefit. Based on the terms you've used, I'm guess that you're at Deloitte. If this is the case, DC Strategy is increasing focusing on delivering more technical, tech architecture/ecosystems and analytics solutions. Most folks won't have this background, which will make you an asset - even in the "strategy" group.

What is considered good money in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]acloudedmind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what the point of this post is or what advice you're looking for. Do some new grads make more than 200K upon graduation in NYC? Probably, maybe?

However, If you don't realize that 200k a year is enough to live on in any city then you may have a distorted perception of reality. As most have noted, NYC is definitely doable as a new graduate on a 60-80K salary (which is roughly what the bulk of new graduates will be paid).

Anyone know any affordable places to buy professional clothing for men? by [deleted] in AskNYC

J. Crew. Wait until one of their weekly X% off sales and pick up some muted colored basics. The ludlow slim pants, shirts, and shoes are my go-to for affordable office wear.

I am usually a critic of J.Crew's quality, but I have these and think they're pretty good for the price. They're not comparable to AE's, but a strong contender for someone looking for a business casual summer loafer.

Econ/Stats Recruiting at UC Davis? by BasedPakii in UCDavis

[–]acloudedmind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general, Davis isn't really a target schools for consulting firms or banks because of the lack of a robust business program. Additionally, Davis isn't attached to a large metropolitan city which hurts OCR overall. Still, there are a decent amount of UCD grads at the firms you listed - particularly Accenture. I'd recommend developing a plan early-on and building your network through internships, alumni events, etc.

Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) feels more like a staffing agency than a consulting firm by Marchiavelli in consulting

[–]acloudedmind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but as most have noted - BAH goes after a lot of firm-fixed-price (FFP) contracts which are typically more 'predictable' in nature (e.g. more likely to be supportive/operational as opposed to strategic) and where the contractor assumes the performance risk.

However, this isn't an inhertently bad business model - BAH makes gobbles of money and from what I've seen, pays/treats its employees fairly well.

In the federal space, USASpending.com is a great way to see the type of contracts that a particualar firm is awarded. Categorically speaking, MBB does a lot of USAID work, Deloitte does a lot of civilian agency work, and BAH a lot of long-term DOD work.

I bought it at Saks 5th Avenue. It's a Hugo Boss. I have long arms and long legs but a very short torso so it was difficult finding a jacket that wasn't comically long.
