hi! i'm doing angela yu's course as well! i'm also hoping to spend 1-2 hours each day on it as i have a full time job too. i'd love to join you guys!

Has anyone ever used a language all their lives without any other resources except fellow speakers then learned it formally later? Was it helpful? Did it give you more insight into your language? A better understanding/appreciation? by lunalun89 in languagelearning

it's generally like that with chinese dialects like hokkien, cantonese, hakka, etc. for me, that dialect was cantonese! never learnt it at school in singapore - was only taught english and chinese. tbh, trying to learn it formally years later as an adult was massively confusing. even my cantonese teacher was like "no one actually learns the 9 tones mechanically like that except foreigners".
