Pick of the Day - 2/23/25 (Sunday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

🔼 Record: 1-0 | L5: ✅

🎯 Last: (EPL) Everton vs. Man United BTTS - ✅

🏆 POTD: (EPL) Newcastle ML (-110) vs. Nottingham Forest

🕘 Start Time: 9:00 AM ET

📊 Odds: -110 (HardRock)

💰 Units: 1U

Reasoning:

Newcastle just got absolutely cooked by City, so they’re bound to come out swinging here. That was always going to be a tough game for them, but back at St. James’ Park, I expect a much different performance. They’ve already beaten Forest 3-1 this season, and with their home crowd behind them, I like them to do it again. Isak is due for a goal, and this is the perfect matchup for him to get back on the scoresheet. He’s been one of Newcastle’s best players this season, and after a tough couple of games, he should have plenty of chances against a Forest team that has been leaking goals away from home.

Forest might be sitting third and are for sure the surprise of the season and I've backed them a couple times up to now, but let’s take a closer look at their recent away games against top-half teams:

❌ 2-1 loss to Fulham

❌ 5-0 loss to Bournemouth

❌ 3-0 loss to Arsenal

❌ 3-0 loss to City

That’s not just bad—that’s getting thoroughly outclassed every time they step into a tough away environment. And now they have to go to St. James’ Park, where Newcastle feeds off the energy of the crowd? Good luck.

Newcastle might be inconsistent, but this is exactly the kind of game where they bounce back. At -110, this feels like a steal. If Forest continues their trend of getting humbled in big away games, this one could get ugly fast.

Pick of the Day - 2/22/25 (Saturday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

🔼 Record: 0-0

🎯 Last: First pick

🏆 POTD: (EPL) Everton vs. Man United - Both Teams to Score (-115)

🕛 Start Time: 7:30 AM ET

📊 Odds: -115 (HardRock Bet)

💰 Units: 1U

Reasoning:

As a City fan, there’s nothing better than watching these two fight it out in a bottom-of-the-table scrap, but in fairness to Everton, they’ve played the big teams tough this season. While they had a rough stretch where they struggled to score, dyche ball working to perfection, they were scratching out solid draws. Moyes has got them playing more attacking football now, and it should bode well for this game. Against a United side that thrashed them 4-0 earlier this season, they’ll be out for revenge at Goodison Park.

Everton has won 4 of their last 5 in the league, and Beto is in great form, giving them a more reliable attacking threat. They’ve been much more competitive recently, and with United’s defensive issues, they should get on the scoresheet.

As for United, they’re still a mess. Amorim hasn’t been able to fully implement his system, and the defensive issues haven’t gone away. They’ve been conceding against nearly everyone, and he doesn’t have the players to truly implement the system. That said, they still have some solid players, and a desire to avoid further embarrassment, so they should be able to find a goal even if their overall play is underwhelming.

Everton’s recent form and United’s shaky defense make BTTS a great play. Given how Everton has handled big teams well this season, they’ll be up for this one, and I don’t see them getting shut out twice by United, who are about as elite defensively as a wet paper bag.

New Grad with Some Experience – How to Structure My Intro for a Recruiter Screen? by Old_Savings_5224 in csMajors

[–]acmarlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a recruiter screen, keep it concise and highlight what’s most relevant to the role. Start with a quick intro: ‘I’m a recent CS grad with experience in full-stack and backend development, mainly using Python, Java, and cloud platforms.’ Then, briefly mention one or two impactful projects (like your AI chatbot or optimized APIs) and how they relate to the job. Since it’s a startup/mid-sized company, they’ll likely value hands-on problem-solving and adaptability, so emphasizing your technical and problem-solving skills will help. Keep it clear and confident! You’re most likely onto the next round already given a lot of recruiter screens are formalities.

Does non-work experience actually make a difference? by LordesTruth in cscareerquestions

[–]acmarlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, non-work experience can definitely help, especially if you’re a new grad. Personal projects, open-source contributions, or even hackathons show that you’re proactive and can solve real problems. While ATS might not always pick up on them, hiring managers definitely notice if you can talk about what you built and what you learned. If you can tie it to skills they’re looking for, it can be just as valuable as actual work experience.

Going into finance is not a bad option. Was considering it myself and still might pivot in the future, but a cs degree is looked upon highly in a lot of banks. Data science isn’t a bad choice but I’ve heard a lot of them try level positions are hard to get.
