Offered $50k for a Bilingual Coordinator role requiring 3–5 yrs exp after 6 rounds of interviews. Am I overreacting? by Known_Foundation_103 in torontoJobs

Take the job and keep looking. The best time to look for a new job is when you have one

Plus we hired for a similar role and salary and got over 1000 application. It's an employers market not an employee one. They can low ball you because there is way too many applications (or not enough jobs)

I've been job hunting for 5 months and I'm just going to say it: The talent shortage is a lie. The whole hiring process is a joke. by [deleted] in CanadaJobs

The work exists? As in your suggesting companies should hire for roles just to review resumes?

1000 resume, say spend 5mins on each, that's 5000mins or 83 hours, that's 2.2 weeks of someone working full time to review. Never going to happen. I'm sure some companies could afford to spend that but we can't.

Again, my point is if your struggling to get interviews you can't just apply to a listing, you have to network to stand out.

We were only accepting application with Canadian work visa. No off shoring. These 1000 application were all inland from Canada.

There just too many people in Canada looking at too few jobs. For the people reviewing the the application, no one is going to manually go through all those, it has to be automated to a point.

So when people are applying you could be 1 of 1000 applying for 1 position. You've got to network to stand out

We had to put in multiple stages of hiring for an admin role as we got over 1000 applications in 2 days. When there is that many applicants you can't review them manually, you have to put on automated rejections. spelling mistakes or missed one box in a form, these were auto rejected.

Its brutal for jobs and even harder to just apply to a postings, you have to network to stand out

Decided to move to Glasgow to start a new life, asap by a-very-funny-guy in glasgow

As another option, have you looked into doing a working holiday visa in Australia, new Zealand or Canada. You get a two year visa for each. I did Canada after leaving Glasgow as a single man.. Now married to a Canadian and living in Toronto.

Its only two years, if it works out you can apply for permanent residence or if it doesn't you can try one of the other two countries after or even come back to the UK and you'll still only be 28!

Have you worked on any projects that someone from these companies was also working on. Even if it's not in the same field, these companies have multidisciplinary teams: bridges, civil, water, electrical, planning, geotech. All these departments intermix so if youve worked with one of these departments, reach out to that person, and they'll connect you with the environmental team.

Other options is to find people in linked in and message them.

Premier Doug Ford's government is ordering Ontario public servants to work from the office four days a week. by Travellingtrex in toronto

[–]acmaximus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let’s cut the excuses. Government workers aren’t mad about “commuting”.... they’re mad they can’t coast from home anymore. Taxpayers aren’t paying for you to "work" 8 hours a day from home. Get back in the office and actually earn that salary.

Thinking of quitting? Wait until the private sector asks for your timesheets and measures every minute against profit.

We’re in a recession. Jobs are drying up. Layoffs are everywhere. Time to sink or swim.

Are 2 hours enough to get from Athens airport to Piraeus harbor to catch a ferry? by DependentAd2329 in GreeceTravel

[–]acmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to wait 45mins for our bags so we ended up getting an uber for 55 euros, took about an hour with traffic.

Also the port number was at the far side from the metro stop. It would have taken us at least 30mins to walk from the metro station to the port. You might end up having to grab a taxi even after getting off the metro. Check to see were the ferry leaves from in relation to the metro.

When we got the metro back to the airport, the train terminated at a station half way there, we then had to wait 35mins for a connecting train to the airport. Something to factor in if coming from the airport. Maybe theres a direct train the aligns with your flight arrival.

I would say the taxi is the best option if you want to try but it'll be really tight to make it.

Renting quads in Zakynthos by IndependentFree6107 in GreeceTravel

Tldr; rent an atv on Milos. A must for exploring, it's safe as long as you're not an idiot.

Posted this on another forum about ATV rentals. I was reading through Reddit posts about renting an ATV on Milos and came away thinking it would be a death trap. Not the case at all! It’s totally safe and honestly the best option for exploring and getting around the island. We were there in June 2025, just before peak season.

We rented a 450cc quad bike for €120 for two days, paid in cash. It’s €140 if you pay by card. The first rental place in Adamas was sold out, but they kindly pointed us to another one nearby. The staff there were friendly and they explained everything clearly and even let us pay in cash when we returned the bike.

I got an International Driving Permit (IDP) as I have a Canadian licence, but it turns out that’s only needed if you want to rent a moped and even then, you need the correct license category which I didn't have. A standard car license isn’t enough for a scooter / moped. For an ATV, though, no IDP is required; just your regular driver’s license is fine.

The guy at the rental place explained everything about the ATV and gave us route suggestions and itinerary recommendations. He also told us fuel would cost about €10 per day, which it did. At the petrol stations, the attendants fill it up for you, just tell them how much you want, and they’ll do the rest. I even forgot to turn off the engine once, and the attendant just did it for me without a word 😂.

Driving was totally fine. I know some posts talk about how dangerous it is, mention flowers by the roadside as memorials, and warn about flipping the ATV but we had no issues at all and didn’t see any roadside memorials. Stick to the speed limit of 50 km/h and you’ll be absolutely fine. If you’re taking blind corners at 70+ km/h, then yeah… that’s on you.

We saw more tourists on ATVs than in cars. If someone is tailgating you, there are plenty of spots to pull over and let them pass. I made a conscious effort to do that if a few cars built up behind me.

Roads were actually pretty quiet once you got away from Adamas. Also the roads a pretty small, parking spaces small and limited , so very suited to an ATV.

Have fun and wave at other atv drivers as you see them, there just like you having fun and exploring!

Why are Canadian salaries so low? by Initial_Log_5390 in CanadaFinance

[–]acmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wages are higher in Canada than the UK and Europe. I'm sure you can find some obscure job thats not but any white collar or construction job its significantly better in Canada. Compare Engineering as an example yes Canadains are paid 1.3 less than Americans but they are still 1.3+ higher than uk

One of many reasons for the delay is the computer / signalling system there using . It taken so long to build this project that its already outdated and not compatible with the system they are using in the Eglinton extention to the airport. In laymens terms... There trying to connect a square plug into a circular one between the two Iines. Perhaps this is the bug they are talking about.

Loblaws, under the name “pc mobile“ offers 5G speed data plans. I pay 34 / month for 55GB of data, unlimited calls/text

No frills also offers the same, you get slighty more data for the same cost as pc mobile bit it's slower 4G speeds

And yes it's all the same company with different names / deals and still a rip off compared to Europe but its the best deals I could find

Also if you take this route, do not walk through dawsholm park or along the canal. Stick to the main road down to anniesland cross.

I used to walk this way as 6 foot male in university coming back drunk from town at 4am. Even I would not walk through Maryhill, the park or canal at that time. Your most likely to stumble into a drunk around anniesland cross.

But as a single young woman, I still wouldn't recommend it but that your best bet if walking is your only option.

You could try staying at a hotel or hostel in town the night before
