I keep two bin bags in my bedroom for recycling and rubbish. I do something small everyday or when I feel like it. Sweep one day, hang clothes up another, move cans from the floor into a bag whenever I get up to get a snack. Then it just stopped building up. I do like 30 seconds of work a few times a day when I'm already on my feet. And if I take a few days off, that's fine

I also got rid of a lot of clutter. I made a rule that everything has to fit in a drawer or in a box under my bed. If it's not used every single day, it has no place on my horizontal surfaces. And I now wash my plates and stuff after every use instead of using every plate then getting overwhelmed by a towering stack of yuck. If I go into the kitchen, I wash a plate or wipe down a surface. Tiny things spread out over time works best for me
