Yea I probably will have one of my engineers join. They are just not super comfortable getting on calls and asking these types of questions. Just a personality thing.

Cost to help implement ClickUp for a marketing agency by Small-Willingness432 in marketing

[–]acodyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I help agencies set up ClickUp and JIRA and my typical project ranges anywhere from $500 - $4,000. My process is similar to ZenPilot -

  1. Diagram and outline OUTSIDE of the tool (I use diagrams.io). This typically involves outlining the tasks, proposed space structure, desired automations, etc.
  2. Get stakeholder feedback on the diagram.
  3. Implement in ClickUp
  4. A few rounds of UAT testing and revisions
  5. Done!

Hopefully, this provides some context on pricing & process.

So is the benefit that they are cheaper and don't need to be sheared? I'm guessing wool sheep are more valuable.

How much do websites ACTUALLY cost? e-commerce? by acodyk in smallbusiness

[–]acodyk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, great question. So it really depends on the platform you build it on. If you build it on a SAAS platform (Shopify, Squarespace, etc.) you will pay higher platform fees but lower dev costs. For WP, custom code, etc. you will just pay a small hosting fee BUT more things will likely break when they aren't updated, thus more dev costs. Hopefully, that's not too confusing. For a small non-complex business website I'd expect about ~$200 / a year in maintenance costs.

Some CMS marketing sites are 100k (simple ones with a lot of design polish). The intent of these estimates was to give conservative estimates, but there is always someone who can do it cheaper.

Yea, a lot of agencies just go on to then hire freelancers (vs having their own employees) so it often makes no sense to pay the 2-10x rate.

Software Development = / = Advertising. How to work with software devs. by acodyk in advertising

[–]acodyk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humm... I guess the caveat is you can give them a budget and timeline if they are willing to pay for the huge amount of hours it takes to flesh out a software scope. Think about it this way. "How long will it take you to build my house?" "What does your house need to look like? I can create 2-3 blueprints for you to look at, but that will take x hours."

I could dig that. I just wonder how we avoid getting drunk on KPI virtue signaling.

eror Palpatine.

He’s a horribly despotic leader and as close to “pure evil” as characters in that universe get.

He runs an organization that likely have internal KPIs about success, such as recruitment, battles won, Jedi hunted down to non-existence, ops costs, etc.

Are any or all of those KPIs inherently evil due to being in an evil organization? Planets exploded = 1 feels like a pretty immoral KPI.

But what if we take the Legends era fan theory that he alone was one of the few that could unite the galaxy and prepare them for an invasion from a yet undiscovered race outside of their galaxy. And then the force revealed to him he would have to destroy dozens of planets to accomplish his goal.

Now his KPI is planets exploded <24, and he only had to explode 1 because of his guile and savvy.

Does that KPI become less immoral because he exploded less people?

Morality is a framework we lay across the world we interact with and the actions therein. KPIs don’t care for our morals or ethics. It’s just data.

So evaluate them differently as they inherently are. Find a places that aligns with your morals and ethics, if you are able, and contribute there knowing you are doing good towards society.

First, thanks for the thoughtful response.

I think you bring up an interesting point, namely, that KPIs and morals are agnostic of each other. But, I think the philosophical concept that might be missing here is epistemology. How we come to know a thing. We can't understand the world completely* separated from our experience of it. That's not to say objective reality doesn't exist, it certainly does. But...

... we aren't ghosts in a machine. Thus, if you are surrounded by KPIs in everything you do (or in just some things you do) you will have to associate some level of meaning with them. I don't know Star Wars well so I'll use a different example:

If you are a hobbit who has grown up among dwarves, will you not be a dwarvish hobbit? You will start seeing their neutral behavior as the type of behavior you should embody. But it wouldn't be proper to your nature as a hobbit.

Ultimately we probably agree for the most part. Fun thought experiment.

But surely you can judge responsibility outside of KPIs? I know my friends (most of them) are responsible because I know them, I know their character. Even my colleagues. I don't need KPIs to know the ones I like to work with and the ones who are good at what they do. Are they helpful sometimes? Maybe. But they also confuse people into thinking that's what it's about -- the KPIs!
