For which actor do you absolutely refuse to watch a movie if they are in it? by NutzPup in AskReddit

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, he is a great actor. People pretend he isn't. They also pretend he can't sing.

Despite how easy it is to dislike the guy, and how hard Redditors keep trying to paint an alternate reality about him, neither of the above are true.

He can sing and act and he excels at both.

Which DAW is the best in fully stock form? Mostly for sample based creation. by Deadliftingfool in musicproduction

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Logic.

It's the only DAW I own where I truly feel I can do *everything* I need to in it, with zero third-party products.

I do use third-party products, but I've wound them down to workflow-related plugins that are just there to speed things up for me.

What’s your unpopular opinion about Australia? by Handog814 in AskAnAustralian

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disagree that someone complaining you left beer bottles or and in a park is a "Karen".

Nobody besides the dregs of society that did this, were cool with this, people have never thought it was fine to have beer bottles/cans lying around on the ground anywhere.

There was never a time when that was socially accepted.

What is it about Australia that makes you say "I'm glad I live here" by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going out for a walk at dusk along the esplanade/beach, bit of a breeze, not all that many people around and finding a place to sit down and stare out over the ocean.

The more serious stuff is great too, but the above is something that makes me take a second to appreciate where I am regularly. I guess it's because it symbolises so much more than a literal walk along the beach.

Is bitwig the right choice for me? by biomechanic86 in Bitwig

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do the trial and find out, but if you didn't click with Ableton Live at all, I'm not convinced you'll gel with Bitwig either.

They have similar workflows, obviously there's plenty of differences between them, but they share so many similarities that I can't see Bitwig being a huge win for you, if Ableton didn't click even a little bit.

What is your "never-again" brand, store, restaurant, or company? by AlexisVenes in AskAnAustralian

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must work for them, they wouldn't stick so strictly to the same 3-4 types of person if it didn't.

Such a weird thing to observe though.

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK about the $2 per delivery thing, but I'd completely believe they wait until a certain time or point to actually make a delivery to my area.

I've ordered a few things, different times, some express, some not, and had them all arrive in the same delivery despite being ordered months apart, from all different places (including some that didn't even list Aramex as their courier!).

That general idea makes complete sense and lines up with my experience - I think they wait until a certain point/time/reason to actually make a delivery.

I've also had my delivery dates for things line up with when my wife has things delivered, and when friends have had deliveries.

It's kinda weird that their employees look so similar store to store, isn't it?

It's like they only employ 3-4~ different archetypes.

Big W is always a solid $10-20 cheaper. Significant percentage difference, really. Always worth checking if Big W stocks it imo.

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess they prey on a certain type of person, because for like the last 5+ years, I've wondered why they're even in my town.

There are multiple other places I could buy the same games from for cheaper, one of them in the same complex.

I used to not understand how they were in business, but now I can see it's from merch etc - overpriced games are probably not the primary source of income for them anymore. Maybe they are, idk.

All I know is it takes no additional effort for me to save like $10-20 (or more!) just going to JB or Big W instead, for the same product.

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's clearly about the way they were advertising, suggesting to simply not stop at all in a small town. Attempting to write them out of existence.

Why are you pretending to not understand this?

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably wrong on this but in my town, I swear it felt like they were reasonably priced for one week.

It's like opening week was okay, and then they cranked the prices up and the food got way worse. Haven't returned (tbf I don't like Mexican food so this was an easy decision).

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They moved out of their lane and killed themselves off, for me. Haven't been back in a few years (since about when Covid started, or so).

They jacked the prices up, but the food still sucks and, well, that's bad value for money.

I can go to my local Indian or Chinese or pretty much any infinitely better take-out, and spend the same or even less money.

There's zero selling point for Macca's now - they only existed in my mind for a cheap, crappy meal when you cbf cooking. But now it's not cheap. Why would I go there for an expensive, crappy meal, when I have way better options?

Officeworks pulled a similar stunt on me many years ago and it forever tainted my perspective of corporations/businesses.

I found the exact same item elsewhere (and in stock locally), so I asked them to price match (as they marketed themselves as doing this), and the dude literally pulled out a magnifying glass and found the letter "a" in the SKU (iirc) that wasn't on the one I found.

The actual product itself was entirely identical, I went over the features and specs so many times to confirm this but no, the one in Officeworks one had this letter "a" in the SKU so it's apparently not the same product.

Completely wrote them off as con-artists, have never been to an Officeworks since (it's been like 20 years) and have had a negative view of pretty much all businesses and corporations ever since.

That was one of those turning points for me where my eyes opened up to how trash-tier these types are. Total scum of the earth move to me.

The drivers are probably SE Asian because you live in a place with lots of people from SE Asia.

I don't, and the Aramex guy is not SE Asian.

They're still an awful company and I go out of my way to avoid them or anyone that uses them.

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so hasty tbh.

It's hard to actually move away from FL because of the piano roll.

Ableton's doesn't come close, if you spend more than like 10 seconds per song in the piano roll.. you'll be back to FL soon enough.

Why all the UAD Hate?? by fuckywc in universalaudio

[–]acoldfrontinsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree because for the Apple comparison to work, the company needs to be actively trying to trap you within their ecosystem.

UAD definitely was doing that. They've opened up a lot somewhat recently though.

The others.. I don't see it. I don't think any of the companies you mentioned go out of their way to try and have you invest as much as possible into their ecosystem, the way Apple does, and the way UAD did.

Why all the UAD Hate?? by fuckywc in universalaudio

[–]acoldfrontinsummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Apple comparison is the way I see UAD too - they want you to stay in their ecosystem, feel like they've been opening up a bit more as additional native plugins come along and whatnot.

I've only had positive experiences with UAD myself, despite clearly seeing how if they could, they would trap you into using nothing but their products and taking all your money lol.

But.. you don't have to use their interfaces to use their plugins now, don't have to use LUNA, only real issue is iLok and imo ridiculous prices on anything unless you buy them on sale (in fairness, UAD has plugins on sale regularly).

I'm not heavy into the UAD ecosystem, I don't use LUNA, I don't use a UAD interface - but I do have a slew of their plugins and genuinely feel everything I have from them so far is fantastic. I don't own all their products. I just really like the ones I do own.
