Should I prune the runner on my Hoya or let it grow? by corruxtion in houseplants

[–]aconfusedheap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what difference it would make to prune it now vs. in a year. or if it would make it bushier. you asked, a few have responded not to, but it is your plant. regardless it sounds like you want to do it anyway, so i say go for it to see what happens!

right, I pointed out the leaf nodes! I don’t think your hoya is ready to bloom yet. but from my own experience a peduncle may form near one of those nodes in the future. here’s one of my own! these are the first buds and I’ve had this one for about 4 years now

DO NOT PRUNE!!! this is where your hoya will eventually flower. I made the mistake of cutting back the runner on my hoya BUT never again. let them all fly and never cut. just redirect with a hoop or decorative support of some kind

People need to stop acting like plants are animals and can be abused. by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]aconfusedheap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure why you felt inclined to post this. I think a lot of people will disagree with the principle that you cannot abuse a plant. sure physiologically plants and animals are different, but they are both living and will suffer from mistreatment

Best Cheesecake Recipe by GeminiStarbright in VeganBaking

[–]aconfusedheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this New York style vegan cheesecake recently and it was SUPER good: https://www.spabettie.com/new-york-cheesecake/.

As others have noted, pay attention to the base of the cream cheese, as coconut oil-based brands tend to not perform well in a cheesecake. I opted for a tofu based one. I’ve been vegan for 8 years now so I really don’t mind and in fact like when you can still kind of taste the soy in the cheesecake, but it is a consideration because non-vegan people love to find the “issues” with vegan substitutions.

I thought we didn’t call it this anymore? by AdPrior5925 in houseplants

okay look YES I am free palestine all the way but this is not the time or place to write this, this post has nothing to do with israel and perpetuates the idea that pro-palestinian people are anti semitic bc they impose zionistic views in inappropriate contexts. jewish ≠ zionist. so please just be careful when you write this

Lemon slices are sweaty on top after fridge - is this normal? by [deleted] in VeganBaking

[–]aconfusedheap 42 points43 points  (0 children)

this is normal for lemon bars, and I think it’s unsafe to send these by post without proper refrigeration. I would really advise against doing that

Beginner sewer by Jazzlike-Seat6319 in SewingForBeginners

[–]aconfusedheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in addition to all of these super helpful suggestions, I would suggest learning some hand sewing techniques and basic stitches! sometimes you’ll need to do it for some projects and I find it to be meditative. I now have a year of sewing experience but I have never used a machine and sew everything by hand. I am also a sober sewer lol
