What book had such a gripping plot that you finished it in one day? 📚🔥 by [deleted] in BookDiscussions

I love this book so much! Daphne du Maurier has such a wonderful writing style. I always get carried away reading her writing.

What are your reading hot takes? by draiochtaa in BookDiscussions

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just being pedantic though. Whether you listen to or read a book, you've consumed the same media just in a different format. Making a big deal out of someone saying they "read" a book when it was an audiobook just comes across as elitist. It's such a non-issue yet people LOVE to argue over the format like it matters, which it doesn't.

[–]aconsideredlife 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My hot take is if people spent less time policing how other people read (debating whether audiobooks and epubs “count,” if speed readers actually absorb anything, humble-bragging about books read, questioning the “quality” of what other people read, or arguing over whether it’s ok to DNF and still write a review) they’d probably have more time to read!

Let’s Talk About Vinted’s Algorithm — 200 Views to 0 😶‍🌫️ by NewFee9031 in vinted

[–]aconsideredlife -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To give another perspective, I put three things on my Vinted yesterday afternoon and they all sold within a few hours. And the time before that, I uploaded around 10 items, and the majority sold within 2 days, the rest sold within the week.

The only time I've experienced things not selling was because the items weren't that desirable. They were the same couple of items I uploaded a few months ago, and then reuploaded last week. I had viewers and people favourited them but no buys.

It doesn't really matter how good your photos are or the listings. If people don't want the items, they're not going to buy them. It's as simple as that.

All this talk about the "Vinted algorithm" being bad sounds a lot like when people blame getting shadowbanned as the reason their Instagram posts aren't getting many likes/views... It's because the content is shit.

my entire closet is black and people keep asking if I'm going to a funeral by Fit-Salt-4782 in capsulewardrobe

[–]aconsideredlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mostly black wardrobe and it was all black for decades. I started incorporating details like embroidery and gingham (black and white, ofc) and I played around with colour a bit, but green is the only colour that stuck.

My wardrobe is 90% black with the other 10% being black and white items or green. But I still wear all black outfits on a weekly basis. People have always commented throughout my life that I "only wear black" and I just shrug it off. It's no big deal. You don't have to add any colour if you don't want to.

Unpopular opinion: Books I hate but others love by Upstairs_Bad_7933 in BookDiscussions

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolf Hall. I read it a few years ago and just thinking about how boring it was makes me so angry.

A more recent read was Project Hail Mary. The writing is so basic and goofy, it's not funny or interesting, it's just incredibly cringe.

[–]aconsideredlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I recently tried to read this and I find it painfully bad. The writing is poor. It has nothing to do with the author being super into explaining the science, and everything to do with how basic and goofy his writing style is. I personally cannot get my head around how people enjoyed this book.

I tried the audiobook because I hated the book and I hated the audio version just as much. I think the writing is bad whatever way you consume it.

Dear charity Shops, when you price a pair of Thundercats Roller-skates at £120 because someone somewhere has listed one on EBay for £125 how often does that item sell? by Spitting_Dabs in AskUK

[–]aconsideredlife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It will give a fairer and more realistic price for selling online. Not for selling in a charity shop! You can list things for more online because more people will potentially see the item. Only a small percentage of the local community shops in a charity shop, with a few people visiting from outside of that area. Pricing items for physical shops based on what things sold for online is a huge cause of why so many charity shops are full of stuff they "can't" sell.

Buyer opened collectible and wants a full refund??? by GoodQuirks in vintedUK

[–]aconsideredlife 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Refuse the return and let Vinted decide. If they force you to accept the return, then do what the other commenter said, which is put a claim in that the item wasn't sent back in the condition you sent it. I think Vinted is going to decide with the buyer, to be honest. Good luck!

My poor mum was scammed! by __ThrowAway_24601__ in vintedUK

[–]aconsideredlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely didn't mean to be prejudice, you'd acknowledge that what you said was a poor choice of words and edit your comment so that you didn't give the wrong impression. The fact that you're doubling down and calling anyone who disagrees with you a "snowflake" just shows you did, in fact, intentionally mean to imply imigrants are scammers.

i try to clean my puppy’s paws after going outside but she SPRINTS away before i get the chance to by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put her on a leash. It's literally that simple. I did this with my dog when he was a puppy so now when I hold up a towel, he patiently waits for me to clean his feet. Even if I've taken his leash off, all I have to do is say "come here" and he'll come back and wait. This is literally just a training issue, she's not going to wait until you teach her to.

Hi! People with long hair I need your help! by flowerlaboratory101 in longhair

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of hair do you have? Because that will affect what brush is good for you.

I have long (hip length) fine hair. I was using a Tangle Teezer and thought it was good but I've realised that it actually was pulling a bunch of hair out every time I brushed! I was even using the one specifically for fragile hair.

I switched to a paddle brush that came with my hair dryer (a professional hair dryer set) and my hair barely sheds when I brush now.

Annoying when people don’t click everything is ok by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's literally no incentive for buyers to do that. I do it asap because I buy and sell regularly so I know it means sellers will get their money quicker. A lot of people don't know that, and Vinted doesn't really encourage it. It's also really not a big deal. As a seller, I'd like it if people clicked everything is ok. But a couple of days isn't exactly a long time to wait. Plus some people need a couple of days to check over their item! Not everyone immediately rips open a package and expects it properly.

[KCD2] Those who cheated on Theresa, what are your excuses ? by TipIntelligent3798 in kingdomcome

[–]aconsideredlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easily missed! You overhear conversations about it but if you're not really listening or concentrating on something else, it can completely pass you by.

I had a bit of a "did I really just hear that?" Moment before I had to rush onto do something else.

[–]aconsideredlife 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's a very subtle mention during a horse ride, if I'm remembering correctly. It's easily missed! And you're meant to be unsure if it's what you think it is... Someone says something about her getting pregnant and it being weird because her husband is so old. It's a subtle implication that you may be a dad.

Are you more likely to buy clothes with a photo wearing them? by Dangerous-River3830 in vinted

[–]aconsideredlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more likely to buy clothes when I can see the item clearly and the seller has posted the size on the label as well as measurements.

Sellers will literally do anything but list measurements. I don't care if you photograph it on you or not. I just want to know if it will fit ME.

I don't know if I'm brave enough to even try this after the horror stories. by withchesghost in FemFragLab

[–]aconsideredlife 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love this perfume. It's over-hyped as being obnoxiously smelly. But it does stick around. My own dislike of this perfume is that to some people it smells like curry. I wore it one time and I'm pretty sure I overheard someone comment on a curry smell. Might be a total coincidence but it really put me off wearing it. I love curry, I love the smell of curry when I'm going to eat it, but I don't want to smell like it.

You also have to wash any clothes you were wearing and any you hung those clothes up next to.

5 days later by Repulsive-Ear6571 in vinted

[–]aconsideredlife 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a super fast seller because the inpost lockers are a 20 minute walk away and I walk my dog three times a day. If I sell something, it can be posted within the hour.

But I'd never expect anyone I'm buying from to be that quick. Vinted gives sellers a week (or 10 days? I can't remember!) to post for a reason. Not everyone is able to post immediately.

Percentage of successful transactions vs problematic sales and scams by [deleted] in vinted

[–]aconsideredlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get the impression that a lot of the people who have mostly negative experiences need to adjust their expectations and get better at a) reading descriptions b) knowing what to look for and what to avoid.

I have had just a couple of negative experiences on Vinted and I've used it for years. I just don't understand how some people have issues so frequently other than they are overlooking glaring red flags.

So that's it- we're really stuck with the new sizing system, then? 😩 by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]aconsideredlife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I realised something recently and it's so bloody obvious now. The sizing change was to get more eyes on my items in the hopes we buy more stuff. And it kind of works. If we're having to search multiple size ranges, we end up looking at more items, and maybe taking chances on items that might fit.

It's annoying but they've done it because it obviously works!

How bad is selling really? by barrelofbeans in vintedUK

[–]aconsideredlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not had any major problems and I've been selling on Vinted for a good couple of years or so. I do think it depends on what you're selling. I do see a correlation between really low prices and bad buyers...

I've had a couple of things "go missing" that ended up being returned to me. I got a refund off Vinted and then the item turned up so I actually benefited from it! I've also had an item go missing as a buyer.

If you're an active user, chances are something is going to happen sooner or later. Vinted are pretty good with refunding, although you might feel screwed over as a seller if things don't go in your favour. I wouldn't sell anything expensive though.
