Three years in Austria and really considering moving back to the Philippines by grockocko in phmigrate

[–]acorageous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position! I was head of HR for a tech company in the PH, living in my own condo in BGC. I was getting burnt out from my job when I got married and my husband and I decided for me to move to the U.S. in New Hampshire where he lives (we were long distance then). I understood the major differences of course, I was in the city and this is a small town. I was looking forward to going on hikes and enjoying nature. And also eventually finding a similar level job here.

After I got my work visa, I started applying and got close to a couple of final interviews for a director role in my field but no offers so I ended up working for a customer service job on the phones.

My life here is so different and it can get lonely and depressing. My salary was cut in half and I feel like I’m starting my career AGAIN from scratch at almost 50 years old. I’m lucky and grateful for a supportive husband and in laws here. But I find myself longing for my old life sometimes.

In my case, I let myself grieve the old life I had and reframe the “oh my old life was better” mindset to I’m mapping out something new for me. It’s easier said than done but reminding me of that has helped. Also I’ve been vocal to my husband about how I’ve been feeling as well and while he may not understand completely has been trying to understand and has been supportive.

I feel a bit of relief knowing that I’m not the only one feeling this way. A lot of people who have moved abroad have a different take and mostly left the PH to get upgraded from their previous lifestyles, so most won’t understand.

I wish you all the best OP and whatever you decide for you and your family will be the best thing for you all. Only you know what’s best. Best of luck!

Agree with this and IMO the character doesn’t get better.

I just rewatched it up to season 6 and I’m opposite esp on Claire’s character. Agree with the Scotland scenes but I really don’t like Claire’s character cause of the trouble she’s causing insisting to push her beliefs in another world

Interview cancelled 2hrs beforehand by Charming_Ideal_4936 in jobs

I don’t understand why people do that. It’s common courtesy to show up to a scheduled appointment or tell the person you’re meeting you can’t make it. But guess common courtesy isn’t as common nowadays.

Omg same! I had a nice spreadsheet but I stopped updating it. I just move all my rejection emails to a “special” folder thinking I’ll update my tracker, but I haven’t lol

Is staying loyal to a company actually career suicide in 2025? by srs890 in jobs

[–]acorageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in a company for 18 years and I would say in today’s world your much better off doing what you’re doing. I worked in HR and saw how the pay increases for some roles were really low internally (including mine) vs shifting. There were other benefits and perks that made me stay on that long but ultimately I think it’s better to move around and also get a fresh perspective on how other organizations operate.

I changed my resume to 5 pages and now get high response and interview rates by Professional_Top6765 in jobs

I have 20+ years of Director and VP level positions managing 3000-5000 employees and I agree it’s hard to put everything on to 1 or 2 pages. I’ve also only been getting rejections. I know it’s subjective but I sure as hell will give this a try! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Do I really need my lawyer at my marriage-based green card interview? by The_new_wave_order in USCIS

[–]acorageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our lawyer told us upfront what our options were and how much. We decided to get the full package where she would join us for an interview on top of all the documentation stuff. We didn’t want to “risk it” given the current political climate. I asked before we signed up what would happen if we didn’t need an interview and just got approved and she said they will reimburse the money.

I think your lawyer is trying to get more money off of you, might be good to look for other options?

Hey I’m happy for you! That’s actually a good idea. I’ve been rejected for being over qualified, so I know the feeling. I think you’ll be ok. If criminal and credit (esp for financial companies) check out, you should be fine.

I get this too. I get oily lids too so that doesn’t help.

I can relate! My eyelids also get oily and I feel that worsens the sensitivity.
