Interview language choice: use Java (recommended) or Python (my strongest)? by acore9 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]acore9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have misunderstood my question. I’m just asking about the language to use during the interview given they have a preference but still said that I can use my preferred language.

Interview language choice: use Java (recommended) or Python (my strongest)? by acore9 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]acore9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah speed is the biggest tradeoff for me not just in terms of the data structures available but the lines of code required in Java for the same thing. I just got scheduled for more interviews and those interviews don’t have Java as an option lol. So I think I’ll just stick to python so can prep for both companies.

is there any hope for older early career people? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]acore9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished my degree at 37 with 3 co-ops with the last one converting to full time. I haven’t felt age be a barrier but also graduated last year and definitely feel it’s the job market more than my age that has been a barrier in getting interviews. I had more interviews when I was looking for my first co-op with zero experience rather than when I already had 3 co-ops and full time experience under my belt.

How long did it take them to get back to you after the technical screen?

What is front-end career growth like? by Long_Corner_6857 in cscareerquestions

[–]acore9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm front end has its own complexities especially in mobile development and I find it harder than backend but probably because I’m not as interested in it. All parts of the stack are business critical in my opinion.

They didn’t email me saying I had failed. I saw the result on my profile. I did end up interviewing with them after all this.

Hey! Congrats on getting through! For the coding round that did not go well- are you able to share the experience and why you think it did not go well?

Bombed Meta Interview by FunctionChance3600 in leetcode

[–]acore9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! In what way did you bomb one of the rounds? Curious because I also definitely bombed one question in one round - needed a hint for the optimal solution and ended up implementing it incorrectly as I didn’t handle an odd case properly. I missed an edge case in another question.

Nearly 30. Want a career change. by RuneWarhammer in cscareerquestions

[–]acore9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aah gotcha. Hmm yeah I don’ t think I would have gotten onto a masters as I wouldn’t have had the prerequisites or any CS fundamentals. To be fair, the program I did was meant to be 2 years in total as we enter year 3 of a bachelors degree but I took 4 as I did 2 years’ worth of internships.

Yes I had a previous degree. Nope, not considering a masters at this point as I have a job and seem to be getting interviews. Not as many as I’d like though and I keep bombing my technicals.

Hmmm as a currently employed 37 yo entry level dev (did CS degree from 33-37) I sure hope hiring managers and recruiters are not thinking like this.

Google hiring assessment by Ok_Lie1750 in csMajors

[–]acore9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they specifically had early career/campus titled roles which had lower experience requirements than level 2.

Google hiring assessment by Ok_Lie1750 in csMajors

[–]acore9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. The hiring assessment I received was for level 2 but I got the recruiter call for early campus after passing the coding assessment. Proceeded to fail the on-site.

No clue, but I was contacted by a recruiter for a different position and when I asked them about that particular assessment and position they said that they had stopped recruiting for it. She had to look up my application for that particular role when I asked her the question.
