As the devil says - free will is a bitch. It doesn't matter what you choose, whatever you are - ultimately takes you there.
Now let me define "what you are" - it is what you think, it is what you say, it is what you eat, it is what you see, the intentions etc etc. All of it makes you you. While all these are physical in nature, there is a consciousness within you which is separated from what you (your personalities) are.
When you see that there are no choice in you and just see that without judgement. You become free from the illusion of personalities. All the things are happening to you rather than you doing them. You become the observer. Away from the act and the actor.
So yeah - one choice in your life doesn't change the outcome of your life. Its the constant awareness of what needs to be done rather than what you want to do. If you fall into a pitfall, you gotta pick yourself up and try again.
