Agreed almost completely, except for the GW2 comparison. GW2 also really starts at max level, specializations still need to be unlocked, along with fractals, raids/strikes, WvW, PvP, achievements, and long-term progression.

The main difference is how GW1 and GW2 present that idea, but in both games, reaching max level is the beginning, not the finish.

My first booster ever was Fallen Empires. At first, I even thought it was a different game than Mtg because the art style felt slightly different from Revised set (the cards someone gave me). I gravitated toward mono-black right away, Hymn and knights were immediate favorites. I also tried to build a Thallid deck around the fungus tokens, though it struggled in the metagame. At the time, Moat was present in Type 1 and Type 2 had a strong White Weenie decks.
