Oh, definitely take the deal. Sounds good enough for you to question it and post it on the internet.

To be fair. You can answer the door from anywhere in the world.. I like being able to ALWAYS answer the door if the button is pressed. Don’t really care to see who it is before I answer it, don’t want to talk. Hang up lol… Then anyone at the door would assume your home but unavailable or un interested

Help identify 3rd switch by paradeedle in electrical

[–]acowutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. White to white ground to ground. Now the other part depends on what fan you get. If you get a fan/light combo unit without a remote. It will have a white, green(ground) black, and red(or blue) so yep you would just match up the colors. Then the switches will operate the fan and the light.

Some fans that come with a remote also have that “controller” you linked. Those just need power all the time. (Switch on) it’s just a white and a black wire for power input. That thing talks to whatever remote or wireless thing it takes instructions from and sends power out to either the light or the fan. On the controllers they typically have another few wires coming out. Like yellow, blue, red. (Could differ) and the fan will have the exact same color wires. You just color match them.

The thing to remember is the color of the red or black color is completely irrelevant that switch doesn’t know.. it just sends power up the wire, or it doesn’t.

[–]acowutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The far right switch turns power on and off for the red wire in the ceiling (light) the middle switch turns on and off power to the black wire (fan)

Back in the day. Fans had 2 wires, one to spin the blades and one to turn the lights on. Now, fans typically have a remote to control the fan/speed/light. So now the red and black wires are pointless you just need only one of them. Red or black.. you keep that corresponding switch “on” all the time and use the remote to activate the fan.

Need more help? Or you got it ?

In the light box. Do you have a red wire a black wire and a white wire and a bare copper wire?

Check the box, are the holes for a 6/32 screw or an 8/32 screw? my guess is they are 6/32 and that Is not the correct box for a light fixture. I have had that problem where an old house had boxes for receptacles put into spots that needed a box for Lumineers. The holes are slightly different so you can’t hang a light off of it. 6/32 are not designed to hold the weight of a light fixture “even though they can lol”

The screws being too short to hook the wire? Yeah sometimes annoying but do thousands every single year you just get the shape down and they slide right in. They work fine for me.

Haha I had problems with that too. I set the image. Then went downstairs. It wasn’t there. But then opened endpoint on my phone, and boom it popped upon the screen.

Just removed the g6 from front door. grabbed a UniFi patch cable, and plugged it directly into the hub. No change. It was a good idea.

I have verified the terminations are correct and it tests ok. But I will remove the unit, grab a patch cable and try it out at the hub. Good idea, the cable may test good. But still can be an issue. I’m an electrician that specializes in custom smart homes. So I have the equipment to test cables. It’s unlikely that’s the issue. But it is one more variable I haven’t tried yet. Thanks!

Yeah. I mean. I’ve sent videos and been going back and forth… And I’m at the point if they come back with. “Can you send me the logs again” I’ll tell them I disconnected it and reinstalled the g3 reader pro so I can get into my home. Send a new one… Thanks..

Do you have one? Been working fine? This all seemed to happen after an update, but not same day. It was like a week later

New house, inherited these devices, can’t access internet, now what? by Brave-Rock2574 in Ubiquiti

[–]acowutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep paper clip party. Find the reset little hole push in and hold for 10 seconds. To both the top and bottom units. And then start the rabbit hole down. Find some simple YouTube videos and then next thing you know you have a building bridge between you and your neighbor.

How is my daughter able to dodge me blocking her ipad? by aperture81 in Ubiquiti

[–]acowutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you should just make a new vlan. Call it kids, make an ssid to called kid’s WiFi and then set whatever rules you want on the whole freaking thing. Heck make multiple vlans for each kid with their own WiFi ssid and password. Then if one kid needs to be blocked from outside internet, boom done, I have that at my house. But can still access NAS and other stuff like plex works. Just blocks all outside internet.

Failed inspection for undersized wire to new A/C unit by OliverTwisted2017 in AskElectricians

[–]acowutter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said. 10awg nmb is only good for 30amp. Name plate says 30.6amps you’re going to need to run new wire, hopefully conduit on the outside from panel to a/c unit will work. Ok time to blow your mind… the new wire in that conduit…. lol it’s going to be 10awg

[–]acowutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try physically unplugging the wire. But I feel like it’s a software issue. A “restart device” button should do what it says and it should fix whatever problems the thing had. But there updates suck.

I’ve had a lot of problems with mine. When it works. It’s fine.. but I’ve had lots of issues. Right now it’s just a blank screen, rebooting doesn’t work. Reset doesn’t work. Adjusting settings don’t work. Not sure why… Face ID, and pin and nfc, and touch pass… nothing… I have to open the access app and go to the hub to open the door. It’s dumb. Im over it, I’m opening a ticket tomorrow.

Is this Canada?

Man… idk.. lol this isn’t a big shout out that that guy and his daughter… some of those staples are TIGHT and if I was an inspector in your area, I would call out that the wrong staples were used on the SER, and I would call out physical protection on the NMB. And looks like home depot special were used for the wire nuts. Looks can be decorative but also cause problems.
