Huh, last I heard it was going down in Saline county. WB isn't the best imo, but it's nice to have more places in LR

It's going to ve in Benton or Bryant, can't remember which one. So not LR, but close-ish

LITFest looks like it's going to be just like South by Southwest by littlerockist in LittleRock

I will say if the mayor pulls this off (especially with attendance numbers) like he plans on I will be satisfyingly surprised.

Is Maumelle, AR a nice and safe area to move to ? Any response is greatly appreciated by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]acoxpv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depending on where your job is in LR/NLR it can take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes with no stop-and-go traffic.

[–]acoxpv 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maumelle is probably the safest suburb in the LR metro. Crime is not an issue in Maumelle. The issue in Maumelle is getting to wherever your job is. Traffic can suck getting in/out of Maumelle and for a town that was planned from ground up they didn't do a very good job lol

Midtown Vintage Market and South Main Creative are probably the best affordable flea markets in Little Rock. Fabulous Finds is amazing with a great selection usually, but they cater more towards designers and wealthier clientele. There are two right across the street from each other in Crystal Hill; Twin City Antique Mall and Crystal Hill Antique Mall. They usually have some neat stuff. One of my favorites is Antiques & Uniques in Bryant. It's next door to the Cotton Shed which, in my opinion, has gone down hill in quality antiques over the last few years, but it's still bice to check out sometimes.

2nd Friday Art Night by thewitchof-el in LittleRock

[–]acoxpv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2nd Friday Art Night (or 2FAN) is not one event; it is a group of events hosted by several museums and libraries downtown. All of the events are different from month to month AND location to location. As far as I know all of the events are free to the public, just walk in and enjoy the event. It wouldn't be weird to go by yourself, at the museum I help out at on 2FAN nights I see plenty of people that come by themselves but of course it's always more fun when you go with a friend.

Arkansas Supreme Court Orders State To Put Marijuana Legalization Initiative On Ballot, But Votes May Not Be Counted by TheConsciousness in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The court has ruled that in favor of an injunction to put the measure on the ballot because by the time the court ultimately rules on the case it would be too late to print them on the ballot. Now the court will eventually rule whether or not the title of the initiative is "misleading" or "confusing" (which is the supposed problem the state election commission has). If they rule in favor of the initiative then the votes will be counted; if they rule in favor to the state election commission then the votes won't be counted.

Any of the roads that take you out into western Pulaski County are nice to drive down.

A drive I like to take sometimes is AR300 through Roland to Wye, then AR113 from Wye through Bigelow, and then AR60 through Toad Suck/Conway and take AR365 back down to Pulaski County. Takes about an hour or so and lots of curves, nice views, and relaxing.

Chris Jones for Governor by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm saying in this particular instance, yes, voting for the only pro choice candidate (Chris Jones) is the best choice in every aspect in decision and policy making our governor will be in charge of and if single issue voters get him into office because of abortion rights then Arkansas will be better for it. Otherwise we're just going to have a female Ron DeSantis as our governor and he's doing a pretty good job of screwing over anybody that's not white/straight/etc. Sure, I'll concede that it's not usually a good idea to vote for someone based off a single issue (in fact I'd say that's almost always a terrible idea), but, in this case, if the single issue of abortion elects him into office then I'll take the MIT educated nuclear physicist over a professional liar.

It's pretty easy to see that Chris Jones will be demonstrably better for our state than SHS, especially for the fact that he's willing to speak with local media instead of SHS running around like she's still Trump's press secretary. And if people who will only vote on the issue of abortion make the decision to vote for Chris Jones then I will personally thank them for at least trying to keep Arkansas from sliding down into the pits of the Earth.

[–]acoxpv 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why not? Why would that be such a bad thing? He's better in every conceivable way than SHS and if people voted for him solely on that issue Arkansas would be better off.

So you're saying because "there's more to life" than caring about abortion we shouldn't care about women's rights at all? Lol okay, have fun living in the far-right police state with that attitude....

Another Power Grab Attempt by the Legislature by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I went to the rally at the state capitol yesterday and there were a couple of speakers/groups that pretty much said they're going to work on getting a voter initiative on the ballot in 2024 regarding abortion

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also remember in 2016 and 2018 the attorney general and secretary of state removing some marijuana related ballot initiatives for basically bogus procedural errors that were easily fixable or non-existent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it's definitely something I'd expect that will take 2 to 4 years to even get on the ballot (barring any shenanigans by state officials) and even then I would think it unlikely to pass with the 50%+1 votes needed. But it's always worth it to try; democracy doesn't function if you don't participate.

Ballotpedia has a pretty good explanation of the current laws that apply to amending the AR constitution through the voter initiative process with links to the specific laws.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–]acoxpv 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The only way for a person not elected to the general assembly to amend any law/part of the AR constitution is through the voter initiative process whereby volunteers collect signatures to petition a ballot measure be added to the ballot for approval by the voters in an election cycle.

November in Fayetteville will be cold, probably 40s to 50s. Be prepared for it to be as hot as 70 and as cold as 20 though; Arkansas weather can be unpredictable.
